[attr="class","Harleynert"]Harland didn’t have time for Trent to be all protective of her. Whether it had to do with the fact they were partners or that they were sleeping together was a moot point. There wasn’t time for twenty questions or making split decisions but she knew she was going to make them in this case. They avoided the gun fire for now but this was now a fire fight and Harley wasn’t going to be on the end where officers dropped. Harley pointed the other direction for the other patrol officers to go around the house. She took a few breaths as she leaned on the brick house with her gun in her hand point upwards.

“Are you seriously asking me if I know the man who put a bullet through my partners skull?” It was a sarcastic question. “I remember the faces of cop killers.” She added. Part of her felt like he should have seen and noticed who hit was too. Maybe the case had just been one of his many lost and buried. Harley covered her emotions with her no nonsense attitude. Slipping away she caught a way in the door. Trent could follow or not she was going to settle this with or without someone having her back.

Slipping through an unlocked door, she was careful to be quiet but that didn’t mean that she went in unnoticed. She let out a scream as she felt hands around her neck. She’d barely been able to get to her radio in time but all that came out was the scream for help. Though it sounded jumbled and she wasn’t able to get any other location out as she felt the hands tighten before she was tossed onto the floor. Getting up there were hands immediately around her collar bone a knife rested under her chin. “You had to get involved babe, couldn’t you stay out of this?” Oh right, like she was going to stay out of things when her kid was in trouble.

Under the circumstances, maybe he should have tried to guard his tongue better, but he was known for being hotheaded. That's the reason he was assigned to Harley as a lieutenant's partner. "I'm sorry I didn't get a better look at his face while he was shooting at us." Making his way around the back of the house, Trent never saw Harley peel away. Rounding the bend, he stopped beside the sliding glass door, and peered inside. There wasn't much to see. Wherever Damien was… he wasn't in sight of the door. Nor did Trent see Patrick, the young boy nowhere to be found. Trent heard his partner's scream. Jesus, she must have slipped away and snuck through the side door into the garage, he realized too late. It also meant Damien must have gotten the upper hand inside. Exactly what Trent didn't need – a second hostage. Nonetheless, he continued around back, undeterred. This didn't change things. Damien still needed to be stopped. Coming in through the back door, slowly sliding the glass door open, so as to not be heard, Trent could make out Damien's irate voice. The word 'babe,' out of that man's mouth, and directed at the woman he had just spent the night with, sent shivers down his own spine. He entered the room, gun pointed square at the man who was both kidnapper and killer. "Damien," Trent sounded calm. Cool. In control. "Knife on the ground. Now."
