She had far too much work to do up here. “Yes Tony, I leave it to my Lieutenants and I trust them to do their job.” If she had to go down in the bullpen and clean up a mess, then someone was in trouble. It didn’t happen, because most knew the consequences for seeing her presence.

After Tony had left, Olivia had fallen apart. Her drinking had taken over her life, then she had Noah to think about. She had tried to settle her life down after the whole William Lewis abduction. Then her other partner, Nick, had left the NYPD too. It somehow led to her and Tucker getting to a more professional working relationship but at the same time learning to trust each other. He’d even been the one who encouraged her to go for the Lieutenant exam in New York.

Her life had been back on track and she had been happy. Even the move to Chicago had been welcomed. But Tony didn’t need to know the past seven years were hell in her life. He didn’t need to know she’d been forced to play Russian Roulette with her life when she was trying to turn Noah’s biological mother’s around. Chicago was supposed to have been the escape from that, with someone who understood how she had changed and what she had been through.

Tony knew none of that. Nor would he. “Stop being a smart ass Tony.” She replied. She got lost in his kiss again before she could give him a dinner response. “Dinner, yes. But we both have work to do.” She reminded him, pulling out of their kiss though not in a manner that suggested she wasn’t enjoying it. Her thumb ran over his lips. So much he was innocent of, so much he didn’t need to know.

Tony smirked at Olivia; oh the day she left anything to Lieutenants he would eat his own socks. There was the chance that the day to day sure that might slide by but Olivia was the same one from New York. Nothing got by her and the bullpen was the good place to be, no matter what level of Brass she was now the place was the same as even. There was no doubt in his mind that there was anything that went on she was unaware of. No he might have been away for a while but he had never suffered a knock to the head.

Leaving had about killed him, there had been nothing left in those first few months. No hope, no time to see what was wrong, his wife killed their daughter and was too drunk to know she was in the car. He hide the entire build up to it, trying to do the right thing by the family and it had ended badly. He lost his world, not just his family but extended family and the work family he had fought so hard to build from a life that had been trouble from the start.

Walking away from it, he had to or he was sure New York would be safer but then he would have paid a heavy price for it. Bouncing around precinct to precinct, it was easy, state to state meant no friends and no one got to know him well enough to ask questions. When they did he moved, it was a simple way of existing and Chicago was that simple next step. A test of the waters to see if he could hold himself together but then there was Olivia. The one person in the world he would have fought for, the one person that could hold him together by just being here and nothing more.

“Me a smart ass, Chief where did you get that impression.” Tony teased smiling as he felt her get lost in their kiss again before the dinner response. Work that little issue that now seemed like something he might have to do, then Olivia knew he was good for working. She had a resume from him from New York personally and the rest was just, a paper trail of cities and cops he had met along the way. “It’s settled then, dinner around 8pm?” Tony offers grinning as he felt her thumb run over his lips.

“But since you’re the boss, surely you could take the day to show me around the place? For old times sake? That way I can make sure you get lunch too, just like old times?” Tony asked deciding if he never asked he might not get. It was a lot for the first day back but then with her there, right in his grasp he was hardly wanting to let go of the best woman in Chicago.
