[attr="class","box1"]Emily smiled. “I have no idea what he would do with you if he found you here.” She teased back. Though her banter long lost in the crazy of the call that was happening. Emily wasn’t forgetting the coffee it gave her a distraction. She gave it to him black but left the cream and sugar out in case he wanted any. She knew how he took his coffee but she wasn’t all in her own head at the moment.
Before she knew what she was doing she was looking at Josh. “I don’t want to sit. I’m too jittery.” Well at least she was honest about it. “I wasn’t planning on going to any park.” What did he take her for? Suicidal she was not. She tugged away from him as he started treating her like she hadn’t ever handled anything like this before. “I don’t know. The only keys I work with are computer keys. There are hundreds of them. And that’s what I do! I help write encryption key programs into computer software for major companies.” She was frustrated. He was treating her like she was into something she shouldn’t be and she didn’t appreciate it.
Josh was right, coffee was a bad idea. She threw her cup at the sink letting it shatter into the sink. At least it would be an easy enough mess to clean up. “I painted today. Today was my day off.” She made a point to explain to him exactly what she had been doing. “And I slept some in the mid afternoon for a nap.” She decided to add. “While you are at it, Pandora and I went out for a stroll down the street so she could get some energy out. We played ball in the backyard. I made lunch for myself. Then I painted some more. Then you should up.” Yeah somewhere in there she had skipped dinner but she was pretty sure she’d not eaten dinner. She leaned over her sink for support and took a few clenched fisted breaths. Before her accident she would have already have punched him across the face but that was hardly something she could do now. Nope, she was just as clueless as him when it came to the message.

Josh grinned as he shrugged though his answer was lost in the answering machine message that worried him. Everyone dealt with things differently, there was a time when Josh would have happily taken to a bottle of anything and drunk himself into an oblivion. Now not so much because things had been going great recently. It wasnt that he always did but well he knew he could do though Emily making coffee when her answering machine was talking about blood and her life.
Honestly was great. “Okay, then stand but don’t worry about a thing.” He stated deciding that it was the very last thing he wanted her to do. “That’s good, I was just saying that it would be a bad idea.” Josh said not sure if he had just started an argument without knowing it. “Computer keys, so you do have keys and that is probably what the voice means. A computer key.” He stated having no idea of computers beyond if the systems he worked with didnt work it got a whack to the screen until it did start working again.
Josh was about to ask what she had been working on when the cup shattered into the sink. He didnt wince as flinching at the action didnt do well for anyone. “You said that and you were going to show me your paintings.” Josh replied as he eyed her carefully, well at least she had slept some he thought. Right now hearing that was the good thing, it wasnt until the rest of her description of her day that Josh realised that they were arguing or well she was annoyed at him for something.
Seeing her lean over the sink for support and her clenched fisted breaths, no that wasnt right at all as he reached out to place an arm around her for support. “It sounds like you’ve had a pretty great day so far, getting out, playing ball, lunch and painting.” Josh said trying to stick to the positives. “Then I show up and ruin your evening.” He said half in jest though he wasnt entirely sure it wasnt true. Josh glanced at his watch as he looked at the time and the fact that she had left out anything she had eaten for dinner.
“And I’m only trying to help Emily, it’s like a nice message you have there. Someone’s threatened you and I’m trying to help.” Josh stated as he decided to go back to the peaceful subjects in life. “So how about I phone in a take out of some kind, you show me these paintings you’ve done and then we can talk about the message. And then you can quiet being mad at me for trying to help and tell me what companies you’ve been working for lately.” Josh suggested deciding that well if she wasnt going to be mad at the answering machine then he could at least get her to eat and talk about what was going on.

[attr="class","box1"]Emily shook her head. “Don’t start Josh, and no it’s not a key you can hold. It’s a code. Encryption keys are used to protect data. It could be any of the number of projects I’m working on assuming that is what they are after. Don’t play stupid with me. I used to do this once upon a time. So don’t treat me like I am two.” Her voice couldn’t be any clearer. Why wasn’t she allowed to handle her own affairs now? Right because her boyfriend went all FBI on everything and she had a brother who would probably agree with him.
She was bent over at the sink looking at the ceramic pieces of the glass. Josh’s voice broke her thoughts. “Yeah I um…” now there weren’t words. It was all starting to sink in that she was a target and nothing she could do about it because she couldn’t walk on her own two feet without the aid of anything. It wasn’t help she wanted; but she knew better than to tackle this on her own. If Josh didn’t have her hide then Steven would have her’s and Josh’s for sure.
Emily just turned around and put her head on Josh’s shoulder. One thing hated feeling was vulnerable and that’s the one thing she felt right now. Despite being mad at him, Josh was the one right now who could loo after her in the here and now. “I’m not really hungry. I…” she was trying to protest but she figured that would have little effect on anything. She hadn’t exactly eaten and her secret was out now.
“I’m working on dozens of projects right now. I have contracts with a lot of companies.” She sighed. “I’m not about to sit here and list them all.” She reached down to get Pandora’s attention. “Fetch files.” She had a filing cabinet that Pandora could bring to her. Well it was more of a duffle bag full of binders but it worked. Pandora went trotting off and came back tugging on the bag and laid it at Emily’s feet. Emily ruffled the dog’s fur but laid on Josh’s shoulder. “You’re welcome to take a peek but there is files for lots of major companies in there.” She had at least 10 folders in there for current projects, to include contracts and specifications. Showing him her paintings had been brushed under the rug for the time being and she’d really wanted to show him; but now he was asking questions. This was not the evening she had in mind.

Josh listened to Emily, he wasnt stupid but then computer keys weren’t exactly in his wheelhouse of expertise. If Stephanie was there sure she could have explained the computer tech to him but she wasnt and asking Emily well since she was explaining he decided to listen. “I’m treating you like the girlfriend who just had a death threat on her voicemail. I know what you used to do but that doesn’t change a thing right now, used to doesn’t mean you do it now.” Josh stated, he didnt want to be harsh but there was no way he would let a used to be team leader take over his team if he could help it.
It wasnt any different with his girlfriend now. All he wanted to do was to make sure she was safe and after hearing that message he wasn’t exactly going to be leaving her to her own world right now. Josh signed hearing nothing much from her, he knew it was difficult but then to him leaning on people wasnt anything to be annoyed or upset about. “I know it’s not easy but I’m trying to help here. I know you can watch your own back but I’m here so you don’t even need to.” Josh said trying to make it sound less protective but then again, it was him or her brother so in his mind. Safer for it to be him.
Josh just wrapped his arms around her when he felt her head on his shoulder. “Yeah well I’m ordering a feast so you can join me or I’ll eat it all myself.” He warned her grinning lightly. “Up to you but you’re stuck with the smell of take out so better that you eat too.” It wasnt that Josh thought that eating in the early hours of the morning was a great idea but then if Emily hadn’t eaten dinner then he wasnt about to stand there and let her starve.
He went back to listening as he heard about the contracts she was working on, well it didnt seem like the list was going to be a small one in the slightest. Josh watched Pandora fetch the bag as he looked a little confused for a moment until he saw the bag with the folders in it. “Sure I’ll take a look and paperwork is my dream, so we’ll find an answer somewhere don’t worry about it.” He said as he stood there with her, he knew what he had to do and what he had to look through but he didnt want to move from where he was.
Holding her in his arms meant she was alive and safe and no one could get to her. “So before we eat and I start ruining your folders, how about you show me these paintings?” Josh offered trying to make her feel better in any way he could. “But before that we need to order food, anything you like and it’s on me.” Josh said as he reached for his phone and handed it to her. “Mountains of food because you’re not going hungry at all.” He added grinning.

[attr="class","Emilyner"] [attr="class","Emilyner1"] [attr="class","Emilyback"] [attr="class","Emilynert"] Emily didn’t want to do things the FBI way. She was difficult to handle and so was Josh when he got like this. Emily however, was the type to fight tooth and nail over everything. Not that there was always sound logic behind it, but that didn’t stop her from trying. ”It’s me they are after Josh. Don’t put yourself in the middle of this.” She knew how to handle herself. She was pretty sure that her shotgun in the next room could take care of whatever came her way. That was if Pandora didn’t eat them first. Why did she have to have a boyfriend that was so freaking protective of her? Okay, so now was probably not the time to chastise her choice in men. Especially one who was just trying to look out for her, but the point remained. Emily was stubborn and had pushed away help since her accident. That included most of her family’s help. Steven was overprotective of her and the only father figure she really had. So it made sense that she’d wind up finding someone just like him. Ugh, it was annoying. Stupid overprotective men. Take out didn’t even seem good anymore. “I think I’d rather puke at the smell of take out before I eat anything.” Yes, she was nervous and her stomach was doing flips and this was why she hardly ate anything because worry used her for food instead. Funny how that worked on a normal day. Though she just laid on Josh’s shoulder contemplating how to best get him to get his nose out of things. Yeah, no that wasn’t going to happen and she knew it. Problem was she really was hungry. Though knowing her she’d probably just eat something once it was in front of her picking at it like she was a bird. Right now the last thing she wanted to do was move. Much less walk to the other room. She was staring at the phone he handed her. “I’m not ordering anything.” She handed it right back to him. “I told you, I’m not hungry.” Well that was a lie, but really right now she was just being… difficult. That’s how she got when she worried. [attr="class","Emilyner2"] [attr="class","Emilynerlyric"]Gonna have to see Through my perspective

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] KEEP CALM and carry on Emily would always put up a fight, he knew as much but this she wasnt going to be able to fight him on. No she was just going to have to put up with him being there and the way he knew to work things out was the FBI way. “I’m already in the middle of thing because you are so you don’t get to tell me not to. You matter to me Emily so yeah I’m not stepping back from you or whatever this is.” Josh insisted, as difficult as Emily could get Josh could return the exact same favours especially when it came to the people he cared about.
Josh wasnt great with the idea of people leaving, he didnt have a family beyond a step father so anyone that came into his life was treated as family. His old unit buddies were family as much as his new unit so Emily, as his girlfriend was practically a world he didnt want any harm to come to. If that meant he was camping out at her side for the next however long. He wasnt about to be pushed away by her, no he would stay even if she hated it because the thought of anything bad happening to her. No he wasnt turning his back on her no matter what she said or did.
He ran his fingers through her hair when she said she would rather puke at the smell of take out. “You’re save, I wont let anything happen to you Emily. I promise you’ll be fine just relax, nothing can get to you here.” Josh said as he held her feeling her head on his shoulder. He hated the fact that she was so worked up over this but then it wasnt exactly a wrong phone number sort of call and if it was he wasnt wanting to be the person that it was meant for. Then again if she hadn’t eaten for a while, he wasnt about to back down on her eating.
Josh just smiled and rolled his eyes when she handed him back the phone. “Yeah I heard you but I’m not listening, besides I’m hungry. Being stuck in a broken down car makes that happen when food it a million miles away.” Josh explained grinning as he tapped his phone and placed an order for Chinese food. It was a mish mash of a few things, or virtually everything he knew she had eaten before. Apps were the way forward and until Emily, he had been a single guy. He knew most of the take out places in Chicago.
Not that he wasnt against cooking but for one after a long day, he wasnt even going to attempt anything remotely good for him. No it was easier to get a pizza or a salad box from the store if he was trying to be good. “Dinner is ordered.” He said as he shoved his phone back into his pocket as he kissed her neck lightly. “So before we eat, tell me about what you’ve painted today? A burger? An entire table of food?” He asked her trying to distract her as he held her tightly.

[attr="class","Emilyner"] [attr="class","Emilyner1"] [attr="class","Emilyback"] [attr="class","Emilynert"]Emily sometimes forgot that Josh too had once been and still was SWAT. Something she kind of envied after her injury. But ordinarily she would have just handled things herself. The one thing she hated was feeling vulnerable and like someone else had to watch out for her. She just laid in Josh’s arms. “I need to call Steven.” Yes, she needed to call her brother because he needed to know what was going on. Hiding this from him? Yeah that would go over like a bigger lead balloon. “We both know where this is headed.” She just stared at the wall; but if she knew what was going to happen the FBI would have her in a safehouse. Everything could get to her here and she knew it. She couldn’t see Steven before she left but she could call him. Bringing him here would just make things worse and she knew it. But if she didn’t tell him, she wasn’t sure that he’d ever forgive her mistake. Taking help was hard for Emily. Excruciatingly so. She felt him kiss her neck and she relaxed some. He had this way of just making her melt. What had she even painted? “Hardly. Food isn’t art to me.” She lightly rolled her eyes, if he was trying to be funny he was failing a little bit. She closed her eyes trying to relax in his arms. One of the safest places she could be. Given the circumstances, she was still content to have Josh around. The last thing she wanted to do however, was talk. [attr="class","Emilyner2"] [attr="class","Emilynerlyric"]Gonna have to see Through my perspective

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] KEEP CALM and carry on Holding Emily close to him, he knew she was safe. If he could touch her then whatever or whoever wanted to hurt her outside. Josh wasnt trying to be unreasonable though calling her brother, he could only imagine what that conversation would be like with a family member. He didnt have a brother or sister to tell anything to, it was just him and Sam and then if he had to tell Sam he was going into protective custody. The guy was a retired FBI agent. It wasnt like the man wouldnt get it.
“Yeah you should and here use my phone.” Josh said reaching for her mobile as he passed it to her. “We do and I’m sorry but there’s no risking your safety. It’s just until we can get a handle on it, you’ll be back here before you even notice you’re gone. You know if there was any other way I’d not have you leave.” It might not exactly work like that but Josh wasnt having her believe it might be a ten year exile to the outer Mongolia. Packing up and moving or just moving on was easy for him, he tried not to get attached until Emily of course. Now he was, he wasn’t about to let anything happen to her so keeping her safe. It wasnt a decision he was being told no on.
“Wait what?” Josh said shaking his head, “Food is art, you don’t have sandwich artists for nothing and if you want me to make spaghetti drawings for you I can. Even in tomato sauce on a dinner plate.” He added grinning at her trying to make her laugh but there wasnt much funny about this. Taking Emily away from her family, it wasnt something he wanted to do. He wanted her to be alive so it had to be done though he didnt like the fact he felt like he was about to break peoples worlds apart. “Then again wait until you see what’s for dinner, you’ll serious rethink the art of broccoli.” He said grinning keeping his arms around her.

[attr="class","Emilyner"] [attr="class","Emilyner1"] [attr="class","Emilyback"] [attr="class","Emilynert"]Steven wasn’t FBI, he was a paramedic. Emily understood it but Steven she wasn’t even sure how to begin. Knowing that Josh’s would be a secure line she swapped phone with him. There was no telling what he would do to make her phone untraceable. Maybe just leave it? If she was lucky it wouldn’t be destroyed. The FBI had ways of doing things. If it had been anyone but Josh, Emily would be throwing things at walls. Pandora came over to investigate as Emily dialed her brother’s number. She chuckled at the art of broccoli comment but also rolled her eyes. Her boyfriend was a complete dork. There wasn’t much she could do about it. Though she trusted him, or she’d be fighting him on protective custody. The phone rang again for Steven. Would he even pick up a strange number? The last thing she wanted to do was leave a voicemail in a situation like this. Emily stood up but then leaned on Josh as she spoke the minute she heard a voice, be it answering machine or her brother’s voice. “Steven, it’s Em.” She needed him to know she wasn’t some wacko that was ringing his phone. She wasn’t even certain how to start explaining things. Her lack of words to Josh earlier were an expression of uncertainty. Something Emily hated, and now her works to her brother were shaking and not as confident as she usually sounded. Steven had just gotten home from shift when he heard his phone go, he swore if it was Boden asking him to pull another shift he would scream. His day had been about normal but the people and idiocy factors had reached a dizzying height and another twenty four hours of torture. No he wanted to go home, relax and forget about the shift that he tried to convince himself had never happened. It took his eyes a moment to register the unknown number, not work because everyone was saved under names.
Other people who had his number, well who would ring him? He hummed and hawed over answering the call before deciding that it might be an emergency. Was he really going to turn into that guy who never answered a call from someone. “Hey, it’s Steven.” He answered trying to sound bright and happy given all he wanted to do was eat and sleep. Hearing Emily’s voice on the end of the line he took a moment to check the number again wondering if he was truly that tired he was seeing numbers and not names.
“Em? What’s wrong? Where’s your phone?” He asked unsure what was going on though the fact she was calling not from her phone worried him. Sure his mind went straight from a burst tap or a ‘can I get a lift’ call to axe murderer and ransom call. So yes when it came to family Steven was prone to those bouts of panic and jumping to the worst case of a call imaginable. Being a paramedic never really helped the matter as he could always vividly imagine all kinds of issues and accidents that could have happened.

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] KEEP CALM and carry on Swapping phones made sense, he knew he would swap his phone out again just in case with a stash he had available to him. The military had taught him one thing, nothing was fool proof or safe, so grabbing a stash of cash saved for a rainy day, another clean phone and a few other things. He might be hostage rescue but the military hadn’t really left him at all. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Going to see Emily that night, he wasnt exactly prepared for a blood curdling message on her answer phone but then again, now he would be.
Josh did the one thing he could do, hold onto Emily as he tried not to listen into the conversation she would have with her brother. It wasnt easy leaving, it was the reason he didnt really make friends a lot of the time because leaving them for a deployment was like ripping your life to pieces and coming back to find everyone had moved ten paces further on. He had done that often enough to be jaded by it and used to it, moving didnt bother him but tearing Emily away from her family.
He didnt want to do it but it was the safest option available. Any other way he could see he would take but right now, getting her some place safe and untraceable was the main idea until the wacko could be taken care of. Josh wasnt above sticking a detail on her family either, one brother one sister and make sure those two were alright too. The fastest way to break a person was family, the fastest way to save a person was family. HRT taught him that much in life he thought as he stood there wondering just what would be said.
He could hear Emily’s voice, shaking and not as confident which hurt because she was the confident person. She was the one who made life work for her and he admired it a lot though he didnt have family to call to tell he was disappearing and that he felt a little odd about. He didnt need to make that call, just to work to take some leave but then it wasnt the norm for him but he had a good amount of time banked up, he just hadn’t had a reason to use much of it on himself. Now seemed like a great time to make a pretty good dent into it as he stood there trying to reassure Emily with a light hug.
