[attr="class","de1"] Aleks was only a week old but Vanessa was not going to stay home when her dad was getting back into town. Despite what everyone else thought she had convinced Martin to take her along for the ride to the airport. She left her son home with Evan, there was already going to be a lot going on. Also she’d rather her son be at home safe. She climbed into the back seat of Martin’s SUV with a little help. Because she had decided to go to the airport, that meant that Reese also came along. Vanessa decided to let Anderson stay around the house. Vanessa fell asleep on the way to the airport, so at least she’d had a nap. “Just let me out here.” She told Martin. He didn’t like leaving her with only one person watching out for her, but someone had to do it. “Fine but Reese goes to park the car and I’m coming.” He sometimes walked the line between appeasing her and taking care of her. She was stubborn at times. With that he and Vanessa headed into the airport. When you were looking for someone familiar, it was easy to overlook them when so much time has passed. Though for Vanessa there wasn’t a snowball’s chance in hell she would overlook her dad ⚓ Jeremiah Whitmore ⚓ [attr="class","de2"]VANESSA WHITMORE ♦. ♦[newclass=.de1]margin-top:25px;opacity:0;transition:0.8s;transition-delay:0.5s;transform:scale(0.75);[/newclass] [newclass=.de1:hover]opacity:0.75;transform:scale(1);[/newclass][newclass=.de2]transform:rotatez(90deg)[/newclass][googlefont=Molle:400italic]

Jeremiah had collected his bag and he smiled as he made his way to the escalator where he knew Vanessa would be waiting for him in the lobby at the bottom. The trip had done him good, a lot of good. It had helped him in ways he couldn't even explain and he'd learned a lot about himself on his quest of self discovery. But after 8 months away from the modern world, and more to the point 8 moths away from his daughter Jeremiah was happy to be back home in Chicago. He had taken the time to get his hair cut a couple of week before he was due to come back and he shaved off any extra facial hair at his hotel the night before his flight. There hadn't been too many barbers in the mountains of East Asia or in the very rural villages of Thailand, so during his travels his hair had grown just long enough for him to be able to tie the back of it into a short ponytail and his usually cleanly shaved face had sprouted a beard, though to a certain extent he was able to trim that himself over the 8 months to prevent it from growing a foot long and winding up in his food. He had thought about keeping his ponytail and full beard just to see Vanessa's reaction when she picked him up from the airport, but as amusing as the thought was he decided against it. Opting to cut his hair short and even shorter than normal at the sides and keeping a stylish mustache and goatee. Anyway he had pictures he could show her, and the new hair cut and beard trim was something he felt he needed to do to mark the end of his hiatus. New man, new look, new chapter and all that. He had decided to wear a black sweater and a pair of comfortable jeans for the flight as they proved more comfortable in an airplane seat than his dapper suits were, but he was sure Vanessa would still spot him out of the crowd, even with his new look. He walked confidently as he made his way through the lobby looking for his daughter, and as soon as he spotted her he made a beeline towards her. The pair had been able to talk via email, text and calls on a limited basis, but it was so good to see her again and hear her voice in person. Seeing her smile made him smile broadly himself and he pulled off his sunglasses as he got to her so that he could see her properly, "Hi-ello!!!" He exclaimed as he couldn't fail to notice her baby laden midsection. "W-ah-w-ah." He stammered slack-jawed, momentarily unable to form a word let alone a sentence. Apparently a lot had developed during his absence. Or more specifically a baby had developed! Tag: Vanessa Whitmore-Cross . |

[attr="class","de1"] Vanessa couldn’t refrain from wrapping her arms around her dad. Truth was she missed him. He could not have picked a worst time to take a trip. Hell had come knocking on the door quite literally. Though she wanted to forget most of the past months. She absentmindedly spun her engagement ring around her finger as her fingers interlocked around the hug she had her dad in. It was news she’d been trying to tell him without telling him for the last month. She’d mentioned over their last contact that she had exciting news but that she wanted to share it face to face with him. Though now was hardly the time to be throwing all of that in his direction. Her dad’s comment and reaction… she was still trying to debate if he was going to kill her and Evan or not. She reached for his sunglasses, gently wiggling them from his grip she put him on top of his head. “Isabella, Her name is Isabella.” Right that was about the only save she had her dad freaking out. Maybe if he could process a name with a baby bump things would settle down some? “How was your trip?” Okay definitely time for a change of subject. Vanessa picked up one of her dad’s light bags and draped it over her shoulder. She’d been following the ‘lifting’ rules but she was sick of bed rest and feeling useless. Everyone had gotten tired of trying to fight her because she was stubborn. Though she had only been out of the hospital for four days. What he wanted to say was Miss Whitmore. What did Dr. Cross tell you before you left? About picking things up? What came out was the look. While deadpanned at Vanessa her turned towards Jerry. Martin believed that Vanessa was as stubborn as his closest friend. The two were a lot alike in some regards. Vanessa ignored Martin’s look and keep talking. “Aleksander is at home. He wants to meet you too.” She had wanted to bring Aleks with her but he was little. He had been early and while healthy; he had been on the small side. That is what happened when you were sharing room with a sibling. Vanessa offered her dad her arm. Old habits died hard and hanging off her dad’s arm was hardly a stretch for Vanessa. ⚓ Jeremiah Whitmore ⚓ [attr="class","de2"]VANESSA WHITMORE ♦. ♦[newclass=.de1]margin-top:25px;opacity:0;transition:0.8s;transition-delay:0.5s;transform:scale(0.75);[/newclass] [newclass=.de1:hover]opacity:0.75;transform:scale(1);[/newclass][newclass=.de2]transform:rotatez(90deg)[/newclass][googlefont=Molle:400italic]

After stammering for a moment Jeremiah managed to regain himself enough to get actual words out, "You're pregnant." It was half a statement and half a question. Honestly he had been blindsided by this and was going through the motions of shock and surprise. Then his stunned confusion gave was and melted into a touched and emotional smile when Vanessa told him the baby was Isabella. He put his hands on his chest as if holding his heart, "Isabella?" He said softly, overwhelmed with warmness. His baby girl was having a baby girl. "Never mind how my trip was, my trip was great. But I come home and your pregnant, let's talk about that for a moment. 8 months and you couldn't drop a line?" He put his hand to his ear like simulating a phone, "No 'Hey Dad, guess what?' No heads up just' ta-da!'" He said going on a characteristic tirade that was humorous more than anything, he couldn't really be mad at his baby girl. Then his face dropped to a much more serious frown as it dawned on him. His baby girl was having a baby girl. That meant someone was responsible, "Who do I have to kill?" He asked without a hint of a joke. Ok he wasn't actually gonna kill the guy and Vanessa had her part in the pregnancy too, but his protective daddy instincts had kicked in. Again he had been blindsided by all of this and he was quickly going through all of the different emotional reactions. Tag: Jeremiah Whitmore . |

[attr="class","de1"] Vanessa couldn’t help but hearing the question in his tones. She shook her head. “That’s not really a question Daddy and you know it.” She stopped as they walked in order to turn towards him. She’d wanted to tell him about everything but she’d gotten so sick and then busy and then she’d decided she wanted to wait and tell him. Then one thing lead to another and now here they were. Then he scrolled right over her asking how his trip was and straight back to the subject she was trying to avoid. That was typical, he was as stubborn as she was. She’d not exactly been in a state to tell her dad much of anything around the time she’d found out about the pregnancy. She found the only way to push it off was to tell him without telling him. “I told you I had news but I wanted to tell you in person.” Vanessa HATED the telephone, it was so impersonal. “So technically…” she was mimicking his whole attitude “... I did tell you.” She shoulder bumped him and used that to hide what have otherwise should have been an exciting time in her life. With her dad’s question about who he was killing she looked towards Martin with a ‘dear god please help’ look written all over her face. Anything she said would not be the right thing to say here. Evan had almost died and she knew that her dad knew nothing about it. Yeah right now was probably not the best time to drop her engagement news either. Vanessa did her silent retreat as she tried to think what to say. Martin’s silence eventually caused the engagement news to slip out in a not so delightful manner. “He is the father of my children and my fiance.” Vanessa was as protective as her dad when it came to some things. Evan was recovering still from the kidnapping even now and she knew a comment like that wouldn’t be welcomed. The last eight months had been up and down for her. Periods of time where she was taking care of the Cross family and they were watching out for her. There had been arguments with Evan and yet they could still be best friends and a couple. Vanessa slammed the door to the car behind her. Martin finally decided to speak once Vanessa was out of earshot. “That might not be the word I would have chosen Jerry, it strikes more than a few nerves.” It was neither his place or Vanessa’s to talk about what happened to Evan; but that didn’t mean that Vanessa wasn’t a little touchy or protective of Evan. Martin rubbed his temples before speaking again. “She’s happy, shouldn’t that go a long way?” Martin knew there was a lot to process but sometimes reminding his best friend what really mattered was in order. “She’s been looking forward to you coming home. More than you realize.” He stated as he got in the front passenger seat next to Reese after opening the back passenger door for Jerry. ⚓ Jeremiah Whitmore ⚓ [attr="class","de2"]VANESSA WHITMORE ♦. ♦[newclass=.de1]margin-top:25px;opacity:0;transition:0.8s;transition-delay:0.5s;transform:scale(0.75);[/newclass] [newclass=.de1:hover]opacity:0.75;transform:scale(1);[/newclass][newclass=.de2]transform:rotatez(90deg)[/newclass][googlefont=Molle:400italic]

He looked at her with a dry smile when Vanessa said she told him on the phone that she had news to tell him in person. She had him there and even as a lawyer he couldn't argue with that. "Alright." He conceded, giving her a sideways glance, "Trust you to out lawyer the lawyer." He looked at Vanessa with shocked surprise when she told him that her fiance was the father. "You're engaged?!" He looked at her for a moment as his mind processed everything at a million miles an hour. Boy SO much had happened while he was away. Then his expression soon melted into a more affectionate one as he snapped homself out of it and told himself that his daughter was having a baby and getting married. She was all grown up. "I'm sorry. This has just all come as a surprise" He began and immediately embraced his daughter, "Congratulations. You're going to be a wonderful mother." He pulled away from the hug, gently holding Vanessa by her upper arms and smiled, "I can't believe my baby is having a baby." When they went to the car Jerry listened as Martin told him his choice of words had been poor and had struck a few nerves. "They did?" He had been away and had no idea what had happened, how could he? Of course if he had known he would have been more tactful about it. "A lot's happened around her and I get the feeling that Vanessa hasn't told me the tip of the iceberg while I was away. You need to fill me in later." He said to his best friend in a low voice so that Vanessa wouldn't be able to hear him, he knew how stubborn she could be. He nodded when Martin told him that Vanessa was happy, " That's all I want for her." He replied simply. Jerry got in the back door and buckled himself in and he looked to Vanessa once the car had pulled away, "Look sweetheart, I'm sorry. I know I went into dad mode back there but I was just surprised. It all came as bombshell, but if you're happy then I'm happy." He told her. "If you're willing to spent the rest of you're life with a guy I'm sure he's something special." He smiled warmly. Though no one was ever good enough for a father's little girl. "So who is he?" When he left Vanessa and Evan was a fairly new couple, and with the lack of communication in the mountains Jerry hadn't been able to keep up on the developments in the couples relationship. [attr="class","de1"] When her dad sighed and conceded she bumped shoulders with him and hugged him. “I was taught by the best!” Vanessa tried to inform him. Well when you were the daughter of a lawyer, and you were around one all the time, you picked things up like that. Vanessa had been one of those daughters who learned everything from her dad. So he had only taught her well over the years. Vanessa just nodded to his engagement question. Though she didn’t crack a smile until she was hugging him. This was going to be a mess. Though she knew her dad knew about her and Evan she also knew how her dad felt about the Cross family. Vanessa had mended those bridges. David Cross, along with his wife had been the ones taking care of Vanessa. In turn, she was taking care of them when Evan went missing. Why did it always take horrific events to bring people together. Vanessa brought the smile back when her dad had her at arm’s length. She just nodded again though this time the smile was less cautious. Why did she really care what he thought? Martin nodded towards Jerry. “It’s not for me to fill you in on. All I can tell you is when she found out about the children was the same week that her fiance was almost killed. Maybe the “k” word is one to avoid.” He made sure he didn’t tell Jerry what had really happened, that was Dr. Cross’ personal information. “They are both on the mend, but maybe rubbing old wounds isn’t the answer.” Martin suggested. He smiled as Jerry spoke. “Don’t all fathers for their daughters?” Martin tossed back before stepping into the car. Vanessa was looking out her window, with her shoulder turned to her dad trying to sort her head. She’d just snapped at her dad and he was the one person she always hated to snap at it, but she’d had it. Now she was just trying to regroup her head. At his apology, she turned to where she could see him. He’d taught her respect and she wasn’t going to dismiss that sentiment now. Vanessa laid down and rested her head on her dad’s shoulder. Then he asked who her fiance was. “You already know the answer to that.” She wasn’t sure she was ready for the reaction to telling him who. That could lead to all sorts of problems. “Be nice, Daddy. Please?”⚓ Jeremiah Whitmore ⚓ [attr="class","de2"]VANESSA WHITMORE ♦. ♦[newclass=.de1]margin-top:25px;opacity:0;transition:0.8s;transition-delay:0.5s;transform:scale(0.75);[/newclass] [newclass=.de1:hover]opacity:0.75;transform:scale(1);[/newclass][newclass=.de2]transform:rotatez(90deg)[/newclass][googlefont=Molle:400italic]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan had stayed home to look after Aleksandr, while Vanessa went to pick up her father from the airport. Assuming she could remember not to overexert herself by lifting anything heavy – something Martin would be all too happy to remind her of if she forgot. That left Evan to debate which new development would shock Mr. Whitmore the most: pregnant daughter, engaged daughter, or that he already had a grandson. Honestly, all of those were certain to go over swimmingly, especially considering a Cross was responsible. Evan would get to find out just how swimmingly, if Vanessa decided to bring her father by to see their son. For now, Aleksandr was napping, and Evan scribbled designs, making notations as he went on a large sheet of graph paper. Not working as a scientist – not being able to put his ideas into motion – ate at him. By the day, Evan found himself more and more tempted to say yes to a standing offer from several years ago: to work at WhitTech. Oh, but the scandal it would cause! Evan looked up at the noise coming from the front door. Were they back already? Vanessa Whitmore-Cross , Jeremiah Whitmore [attr="class","evanright2"] |

"Here fiancé was almost killed?" He asked, obviously surprised and concerned. Seriously! How much had he missed while he was away? "How it is I haven't heard any of this?" He was more gibbering out loud. Not that he could be faulted for that, he was having a lot thrown at him at once. But he was handling it fairly well so far, with all things considered anyway. “You already know the answer to that.” On hearing his daughter's answer Jerry did his best to try and not let the range of emotions he was feeling show on his face, instead plastering a little frozen smile on his face as he once again let his mind process what he was being told. "Ahem, E-Evan." He said, clearing his throat. And trying (with less that total success) to keep the tone positivist in his voice. "...As in Cross." He added, again holding the smile and positive tone the best he could...Though a blind man could probably have seen through it. "That's nice...Isn't that nice." Ok he was floundering a little, but he just wanted his daughter to be happy so he was gonna do he best to put on a happy face for her until he could come to terms with it all. After all he didn't really have a problem with Evan when it came down to it. The man had been there for Vanessa and she seemed to really love him...it was just the thought of having David Cross as an in-law that didn't sit well, no it didn't sit well at all. But right this second wasn't the time to address that with his heavily pregnant daughter, no he had to keep her calm and relaxed and show her that he supported her...even if he didn't exactly like her choices. “Be nice, Daddy. Please?”"Pshhh. Ha, pfff" He stalled, as if trying to say like there would be any chance he's be anything other than nice. "Baby, please. Like I said if you're happy then I'm happy for you." He told here. True he was happy FOR her, but that didn't mean he was happy. "Is it hot in here? It's like, it's like it's hot." He said, obviously out of sorts and failing miserably in not showing it as he quickly took his arm from around his daughter so that he could reach over and open the window a little. Thankfully it wasn't long before the car pulled up, "Oh good we're here." He said, seeing the house. He quickly opened the door and climbed out, happy to get out of the car that had suddenly became a rather claustrophobic space. Besides after being out of the country for so long and spending so many hours on the airplane it was genuinely nice to be back and he couldn't wait to get inside. He held the door open for Vanessa and offered his hand to help her get out more easily if she wanted it. Then he grabbed his bags and followed her to the front door. Having no idea that his grandson and son-in-law to be was inside. "Ah, It's good to be back." He said with a genuine smile as he stepped inside the house behind Vanessa. [attr="class","de1"] Why hadn’t her dad heard about any of the whole Evan kidnapping and getting killed thing? Because maybe it wasn’t her story to tell. “Look, I don’t go airing Evan’s life okay. It wasn’t my place to mention any of it.” Vanessa looked towards her dad and sighed. He knew the two had been dating, he’d been in the hospital room when Evan had mentioned wanting to be more than just friends with Vanessa. It had come just before Benton had tried to blow her up. In fact, she’d been trying to hard to hide her hearing issues from everyone. That included Evan and her dad. All she could hear was the “isn’t that nice” part of her dad’s statement. She could feel her heart drop a little in her chest. So he hardly approved of her choice. No, she hadn’t expected him to do so. She had asked him to be nice and she could hear the hesitancy. Her silence won out and she clenched her fist and closed her eyes trying to focus on stuff with her one good ear. Vanessa thought her dad was acting funny. Then again, he was probably in shock from all the new information. Sure she’d kept in touch but her dad’s timing to be away had been… unfortunate. She took her dad’s hand and climbed out of the car trying to put distance between herself and Martin for the time being. Opening the front door she left it open so that her dad could join her. She knew better than to be picking anything up. She could see the light from the room where Evan worked. “I thought you were going to take a nap babe. We are home.” She called loud enough to be heard but not loud enough that she’d wake Aleksander if he was sleeping. From the sounds of things, it was the baby getting the nap and not the Evan. ⚓ Jeremiah Whitmore,Evan Cross ⚓ [attr="class","de2"]VANESSA WHITMORE ♦. ♦[newclass=.de1]margin-top:25px;opacity:0;transition:0.8s;transition-delay:0.5s;transform:scale(0.75);[/newclass] [newclass=.de1:hover]opacity:0.75;transform:scale(1);[/newclass][newclass=.de2]transform:rotatez(90deg)[/newclass][googlefont=Molle:400italic]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Hearing the voices coming from the front of the house, Evan nibbled at the eraser, his plans to keep working on the schematic temporarily set aside. Vanessa had assured him that her father wouldn't try to kill him, but wouldn't this be a lot to take in at once? Of course Evan trusted her implicitly. However, at the end of the day, he was still the son of David Cross, and his father was still at odds with hers – even all these years later. So, yes, he could be nervous. Polite. But nervous. Evan shot up in his seat, dropping the pencil on the desk when Vanessa called out to him. He'd been caught red-handed, like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar. Evan made his way out to the other room, planting a chaste kiss on Vanessa's cheek to welcome her home. No need to give her father more ammunition at this point. Maybe Vanessa wouldn't be too upset that he was trying to work again, even if he did need the sleep. Developing new designs and concepts had been slow going in the wake of his kidnapping, but whether this was a one-off, or a sign that things were getting better... Evan couldn't put his finger on which answer was the right one. "I was?" He shrugged sheepishly. No sooner than his head had hit the pillow than inspiration had struck. The best ideas had a funny way of doing that. "But I had an idea that I wanted to put on paper. Aleksandr is asleep in the nursery. He couldn't keep his eyes open anymore." As if remembering Vanessa had gone to the airport to pick up her father, Evan gave a respectful nod. Handshakes – along with anything else that would put him within arm's reach – were off the table with Evan cautiously giving Jeremiah a wide birth. Evan would wait to see how her father would react before putting himself at risk like that. Something about the other man had always made him difficult to judge. Considering Vanessa had put him on the floor once, her training coming from both Martin and her father… Evan knew better than to test the former military man. His eyes darted between the two of them, finally stopping on Jeremiah. "Mr. Whitmore. Sir. How was your trip?"Vanessa Whitmore-Cross, Jeremiah Whitmore[attr="class","evanright2"] |

Jerry followed Vanessa to the living room and set his bags down as Evan walk into the room. He met the guys eyes and there was an instant but unspoken awkwardness between the pair as they nodded to one another in way of a greeting. Mr. Whitmore. Sir. How was your trip?" "It was great thanks. Very enlightening. A lot of self reflecting and a lot of beautiful scenery." He replied with a couple of nods. Then he cleared his throat before a moment of silence fell between the two. "I understand congratulations are in order." He said referring to the engagement, once again trying to be supportive of his daughter's choices despite his own apprehension. " I've been told you and Vanessa are getting married." He smiled lightly and then glanced at Vanessa's baby bump, "And you're going to be a father as well." Little did he know that Evan was already a father. News that would come as a shock to Jerry when he found out. "I still can't believe my baby is having a baby." He said with a genuine smile. The awkwardness and tension fading away by a significant amount. Feeling his body warming up with the warmth of the room Jerry slipped off his leather gloves, "So who's Aleksandr?" He asked innocently, having heard Evan tell Vanessa he was asleep the nursery. Tag: Vanessa Whitmore-Cross , Evan Cross . |

[attr="class","de1"] Vanessa smiled as Evan kissed her cheek. There was no need for too much public displays in front of her dad. The two had tact in front of family at the least. It came with growing up in rich families. All the formalities and everything else. “Aleksander sleeping gave you an idea?” No she hadn’t heard that correctly in the slightest. Her hearing really was starting to bug her. That didn’t even make sense. The momentary look of confusion was gone as quick as it came. In all honest, she was glad to see him getting back to some sense of normal. He loved sciencing things and to her that meant he hadn’t lost a passion that he hadn’t much interest in recently. Deep down, she was bouncing up and down for him. “I’ll go check on him.” She replied though as she was walking away she heard her dad as who Aleksander was. That one was a tricky question. She peeked into the baby’s room and he was more than happy to wake up once the door opened. Well, he had probably woken up when she tripped over the stuff in the hallway and slammed into the bathroom door. Oops, good one Vanessa. The crying was not something Vanessa was accustomed too, it was frustrating. Kids were… difficult. Though the crying was much louder than she could hear. It was loud enough, they could probably hear it downstairs. Vanessa hardly had heard it through the door. She’d wanted to check on him, not making him this screaming ball of awake. Picking him up she put him on her shoulder. She headed back downstairs and Aleks was not content to be on her chest where he could hear her heartbeat. Usually that worked but something else was wrong. He was clean and she was certain Evan had fed him. He was still grumpy and not so content. Vanessa wiggled Aleks into her dad’s arms, where he seemed content for the moment. “Long story short. They are twins who aren’t.” She really did not to get into the whole medical terminology of things. “He was early, so I didn't think about having you get an earlier flight.” She'd not purposefully omitted her dad from that part of her life. Though to be fair, Vanessa had been miserable and it was probably glad her dad didn’t have to see her the week prior. “We’ve only been home a few days.” Hence why everyone and their brother was telling her to take it easy. They had their reasons. But there was no way in hell, she wasn’t going to be there when her dad got off the plane. Though she could probably count the seconds until one of the guys yelled at her for not resting. ⚓ Jeremiah Whitmore ⚓ [attr="class","de2"]VANESSA WHITMORE ♦. ♦[newclass=.de1]margin-top:25px;opacity:0;transition:0.8s;transition-delay:0.5s;transform:scale(0.75);[/newclass] [newclass=.de1:hover]opacity:0.75;transform:scale(1);[/newclass][newclass=.de2]transform:rotatez(90deg)[/newclass][googlefont=Molle:400italic]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Ever since that original falling out between Jeremiah, Martin, and his father, all those years ago, even getting the three one-time friends back in the same room would require a minor miracle. Evan couldn't blame Jeremiah for projecting feelings for David onto him – the son. Considering Evan was having a hard time moving forward and forgiving the man himself, how could he reasonably expect someone else to? If only he could somehow convince Jeremiah those doubts were misplaced. After all, Evan wasn't his father; he didn't want there to be the same underlying tensions with his soon-to-be father-in-law. Not that the three major bombshells he and Vanessa dropped on the man since his flight had landed were helping the situation. Evan would, in the meantime, maintain a sense of decorum, frowning only when Vanessa misheard his comment about his work. Maybe he was just overly tired, but he could have sworn a momentary look of confused passed over her face; gone, just as quickly as it had come. "No, that's not what I said. I… well, it's not important."Even if Jeremiah were just being polite, Evan smiled graciously, as Vanessa left to bring their son to see his grandfather, leaving the two men to talk. Evan was still having a hard time reading him – something he really needed to get better at, if he wasn't going to have anxiety every time Jeremiah was in the room. "Yes, sir. We haven't set a date, or made any plans, or anything really… but I do love her and I want to be with her."Then Jeremiah was asking about Aleksandr. Either some details had gotten lost in translation along the way, or Jeremiah hadn't gotten the entire story from his daughter. Either way, he was going to find out sooner or later, when his fiancée carried their little bundle of joy downstairs. But it made for another awkward moment. "Vanessa didn't tell you? Aleksandr is our son. He's going to love meeting you."Although, if the crying wafting down from the upstairs nursery was any indication, Aleks was less than amused at being woken. Vanessa reappeared not long after, Aleks tucked safely in her arms. Evan smiled, watching Vanessa pass the baby to her dad, an action which had an instant calming effect. "See? Someone likes his grandfather."Vanessa Whitmore-Cross , Jeremiah Whitmore [attr="class","evanright2"] |

“Aleksander sleeping gave you an idea?” Jeremiah glanced at his daughter and squinted a little as she talked with Evan, that wasn't right. But the miscommunication was swept aside with no second thoughts as Evan said never mind and Vanessa went to get Aleksander. Meaning the men were left in the room together. Jerry looked toward the direction of the noise as he heard a thud followed by a baby crying. A baby? But before there was a chance to question it he turned his eyes back to Evan as he spoke. "Yes, sir. We haven't set a date, or made any plans, or anything really… but I do love her and I want to be with her."Oh Jerry had a lot of mixed feelings about that, but from what he had seen from Evan he knew his daughter could have chosen a lot worse. That didn't mean he thought Evan was good enough for his little girl but then in his eyes no man would be, so he played nice even if their was slightly strained tone in his voice "Good. I'm glad." Yep...he was glad...ish. "Just as long as you're both happy, then I'm happy." Which really translated to 'Just as long as you take care of her and make her happy I'll keep my mouth shut.' Thankfully that was when Vanessa returned, saving any more awkwardness of the men having to stand there alone with each other. But she didn't return alone, for some reason she had a baby that was fussing. "Vanessa didn't tell you? Aleksandr is our son. He's going to love meeting you."Jeremiah's brow raised and his eyes widened with stunned shock at the news, "Say what now?"He stood there stunned as Vanessa proceeded to push his grandson into into his arms. “Long story short. They are twins who aren’t.”Jerry took the baby in his arms, looking at Vanessa still in slack jawed shock. "My, my grandson?" He stammered. He was left momentarily speechless, moving his mouth but not able to get any words out. “He was early, so I didn't think about having you get an earlier flight.” “We’ve only been home a few days.”There was so much Jerry didn't understand right now and that was as clear as day on his face. There was so much confusion in his mind and so many questions he had for his daughter, but as he looked down at Aleksander for the first time his look of stunned confusion melted into an emotional smile as his grandson settled in his arm. "Hello." He wispered in a gentle and emotive tone, his eyes misting with joy just as they would have if he had held his grandson for the first time at the hospital after the birth. "See? Someone likes his grandfather." Jerry looked up at Vanessa and Evan, "I'm a grandfather?" He smiled emotionally. It was a rhetorical question as he took in the moment. Jerry looked back down at Aleksander who was as quiet and cozy as could be in his arm and he smiled at him lovingly, "I'm a grandfather."Tag: Vanessa Whitmore-Cross , Evan Cross . |
