It would be cute if you actually did your job and stopped stepping all over a federal investigation.” Lizzie retorted as she spotted Olivia coming down from the stairwell. There was a smirk on Elizabeth’s face. Then she looked at Nate. “I’ve already spoken with the Chief. You shouldn’t even be IN those handcuffs.” That is why she had been pitching a fit. Liz had already gotten the clearance to take him out of CPD custody. However, this patrol officer had other ideas.

Liz ignored the rest of what Jia was mentioning about partners. Technically, Nate wasn’t a partner. Technically, she was down here getting him out of this mess. There was a larger issue to fry. The fact that his alias was probably blown. He was coming into CIA protective custody whether he wanted to or not. Olivia came joining the party. “Detective Lang, give the feds back their agent.” The decision was clear. “If I so much as hear about you investigating them further you will be on leave.” Oh Olivia had heard the conversation from the stairwell too. Though she wasn’t finished. “Agent Gidon, I expect a report from that crime scene and in a timely manner. Keep him.” She pointed at Nate, “off of it.”

Liz looked to Nate again. “I don’t have to play nice,” No all she had to do was keep a promise. There would be a report for that “crime scene” on Olivia’s desk. How accurate it was… that was to be debated with the CPD. The person responsible would be “dead” at another staged CIA scene. One could be almost certain of that. The “NCPC” would blame it on a dead man. The CPD would shut up about an operation they had accidentally stumbled into and the CIA would cover over a bigger fish. Lizzie knew she would have to tell him that the other agent had lost her cover at some point and that his might be in danger. “You might be a milkshake duck. Momma duck was gaslighting. The sword of Damocles is coming.” In so many words, she told him that his cover might have been compromised and that he was in trouble. She made sure that Jia couldn’t hear the conversation of ducks and swords.

As far as the CIA was concerned, there was far less paperwork that way. People vanished all the time, never to be heard from again. That was just the way the shadowy organization worked, but sometimes the orders called for a person of interest to be brought in alive for a friendly chat. Delta Force could go either way. Nate chuckled at the implication he was stealing her work. "My fish aren't typically arsonists, but you know that." Jia took the opportunity to point out his death certificate – a document that had been faked to enhance the illusion of his KIA status. In a, perhaps, ironic twist of fate, that particular record had been a way to help keep him alive. So, despite the point Jia was trying to make, they still technically stood on equal footing. Words, written on paper, didn't automatically make something factual. "I could draw up a piece of paper that says you're the Queen of England. Doesn't mean it's true." By the time Liz arrived to get him out of this, the conversation headed back downhill. The CIA Officer and CPD Detective got along about as well as oil and vinegar, each one jockeying for position. When it came down to jurisdiction, Liz had the upper hand, but if he knew Jia as well as he assumed he still did, the verbal sparring would take another turn for the worse. "Umm... hi? Standing right here. We're all on the same team here, in case any of you forgot that little detail. But I have – had? – a cover to maintain." Nate held his hands out, waiting to be uncuffed. Most of what Liz told him was what he had already come to fear, though the curveball about his handler was a new one to add to the list. "Fantastic," Nate commented, the sarcasm evident. "But you hired me to a job. I don't leave things incomplete. If things are that bad off, and I have no backup, maybe we should read the CPD in. Jia knew that Nate’s job for Delta Force was hardly the hugging bunnies and chasing rainbows though thinking that he killed people. No she had done that in the military, once as a cop and she never wanted to have to do that in her entire life. Thinking that Nate did that for work, she was sticking with her bunnies and rainbow theories on life. “Oh I do know that but you might be chasing fish, that last batch of salmon that came into port did smell fishy to me.” She teased though it was an awful attempted at a worse joke.

As the conversation turned to his death certificate, Jia now knew more than ever never to trust anything written on paper at all. Great facts were no longer facts and for a woman who liked to believe in a lot of things, not being able to trust paper. It made her head hurt as she grinned at the thought of paper saying she was the queen. “Well if you ever get the chance to make that document, then I say do it. I’d quite like to be Queen for a day and it does make it true if I believe it to be.” She added knowing full well for years she had believed Nate to be dead.

Cue the other woman, yes that woman who was trying to tell her to get her feet out of a federal investigation that she had no idea she had walked into that morning. “Then you actually communicate with the CPD and we can stay the hell out of it. Not like I planned on this today of all days, maybe you should keep your toes out of the CPD crime scenes.” Jia snapped back glaring, she was never one to back down on an argument and this woman was only making her angrier. Jia wanted to yell at the woman everything she knew about Nate but then it was likely the worst idea she had.

Jia was about to argue that if Nate was out of the cuffs it would break protocol but then the Chief came into the picture before Jia could even rip a chunk out of the other woman. Then as if Jia needed one more person to be angry with that day even the Chief was telling her to release someone she wanted to keep safe. Talk about the world conspiring against someone for a day from hell. Jia was about to argue with Olivia too until she opened her mouth and heard something about leave. “Yeah great cover, that’s two extra people that know about it now.” Jia muttered rolling her eyes as she pulled the key from her pocket.

Hesitating for a moment she had no reason not to follow orders as she uncuffed Nate’s hands and stood back. The CSI tech was likely never to speak to her again for losing the guy who had hit him and that was just a world of complicated as she raised her brow at Nate asking for CPD back up. He had a point but Jia kept her mouth shut, if no one was to know they knew each other then standing and glaring just about summed up what she was thinking. Shoot him right there or shoot his agent friend that had annoyed her just as much. Maybe both she thought the way she was feeling right at that moment.
