"Oh, thanks," Mattie rolled her eyes, but she was grinning. "I'm so glad you boys will include me! Evening pancakes sounds perfect! Better by firelight."
She laughed, patting Koda's head. "We used to have pancakes for dinner sometimes," she observed, "when mom was sick or busy, pancakes was Dad's idea of cooking." More bittersweet but welcome memories.
"Um..." Her nose wrinkled up as she glanced at his latest efforts, "that looks more like a crime scene than breakfast! I think I have that yellow tape somewhere, we can isolate the scene and call in CSI!"
Laughing again, she finished her coffee then poured herself another cup. "You want some?" she offered him a refill of coffee. "So, what's your go-to quick meal? You a cold pizza kind of guy?"
