[attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]Stephanie Taylor [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"] Grace didn’t want Ben to be called but Stephanie knew the more he was kept out of the loop, the stickier this was going to get. She needed to get all the ducks in a row first and show Ben that she had it handled before he completely freaked out. Not that she expected him not to freak out, after all his daughter had just seen her dead grandmother on the kitchen floor. There was that. That was something she couldn’t just wash under the carpet. “Oh sweetheart it doesn’t work that way.” Stephanie wasn’t usually one to use pet names for anyone but she knew that Grace was having a hard time dealing with things.
“Grace, you and your dad are family. Of course I am going to look after you. The both of you.” Stephanie was the one who had the experience here. She held Grace close to her as she finished up the conversation on the phone with Josh. Though she had a feeling knowing Josh he could just chat for hours. There was a reason she didn’t talk to him much.
Stephanie rambled off the address. “The sooner the better.” She added when he said he could be there as soon as she needed him. Really she needed him when she’d walked into this mess but she was really going to ask a favor. More so because Grace was scared and Stephanie wanted her to know that Stephanie wasn’t just blowing smoke. Even if Josh could put that fear at ease… Stephanie rubbed Grace shoulder a while longer. “Rambo is already been and gone. Josh.” She shook her head not that he could see that. “It’s a personal favor.” Stephanie assured him. Then talk turned to whose dad Stephanie was calling. “I’m calling my husband.” Maybe he would make the connection of who Grace was and hopefully she wasn’t having to spell everything out for Josh, though he sounded like he had been taking a nap or something.
The fact was that Grace wasn’t in trouble and Steph was going to jump through hoops to keep that from happening. She played with the edge of the phone. Stephanie wanted more than ever to pace right now but that wouldn’t help Grace any. Steph could feel the anxiety welling up in her and she was soon going to be fighting her own demons if she wasn’t careful. “Why don’t you come sit down Grace. At least drink something?” She pointed to her bag by the front entryway. “At least sip on some water. There’s an unopened bottle in the front side pocket.” Steph didn’t usually carry a bag unless it was going from house to car. She just didn’t like toting them around but she always had learned to have one close by because of work. Never knew what you were going to need.

Grace shook her head when Stephanie said he didnt work that way. “Sure it can, we just need to tell the police to hurry up and get her out of here. Dad wouldn’t know and I know there’s a spare rug in the attic so that can cover the... well you know. Dad would just this his mother left again, he really doesn’t have to know.” Grace almost pleaded with Stephanie as knowing her dad it was going to get messing. A moment in life when a nightmare came true, followed by a couldnt get any worse nightmare only to find out that it could. This was exactly that, a body was bad enough, her dad just made it worse.
“I’m not bothered about me, just you, Zach and dad. I didnt mean for this to happen.” Grace said as she hugged Stephanie again wondering what her friend could even do. Maybe get the rug she was on about or make sure her dad was busy for the rest of time so he’d never notice. That would work too but it wasnt until Stephanie said she was calling her husband she prayed that this Josh could keep Stephanie on the phone. It was a lot safer that way she figured and the less her dad knew the better for everyone’s freedom.
“Sit down? You’re going to call dad, how can I sit down when he’ll go nuts. I know he will.” Grace said as she paced before looking at the bag Stephanie had pointed out to her. Grace went to get the water bottle as she pulled it from the bag and gulped some though it didnt do much to help the sick feeling in her stomach. “You saw how he reacted to a frog... this isn’t a frog. Can’t your boss kidnap him for a while, take him drinking or yeah just get him drunk and then he might not remember right? People do that, drink too much and forget?” Grace suggested trying to find a way beyond trying to reason with a potential crazy person.
It wasnt that Grace knew what would happen but her dad was, well Ben and she had been used to general disasters in life but this. This was a new thing and for all she knew he might just shrug it off and go back to work like nothing was wrong, that was the ultimate best case. The worst, she didnt even know what he would do for the worst case but all she could think of was at least he had Stephanie there for him. “Stephanie, please don’t tell him. We can fix it, you said your friend could help... we’ll be grounded you’ve no idea.” Grace pleaded as she moved to sit next to Stephanie and cling to her arm.

Josh just agreed as he said he would be there as soon as he could and given his driving it would be soon enough. The address he recognized as Stephanie’s as the more he heard the less like a spider in the bath situation it sounded like. Josh didnt mind a call from Stephanie about anything, they had worked together long enough to be okay about that but he could tell there was more to it.
“Hey consider it done already. Personal or not.” Josh said as he listened to her talk about calling her husband. “Crap your kid’s involved too.” Josh muttered as that was a pet hate of his, the minute children were involved things got messy. It explained a lot as he hung up the phone and dodged a few cars on the way as he drove. He had a number of excuses lined up for getting there, the number one excuse was informants. Stick the paperwork for that to a person and it got far too messy for people to figure out at a federal level.
Mention FBI and it would go one of two ways, well or badly but he wasnt about to care about that given that Stephanie needed his help. Also federal anything helped put a buffer up to stop any intervention until the paperwork was sorted out, that could be minutes, hours, days or years depending on how slow they wanted to go. A badge and a gun was one thing but federal paperwork could break any precinct he figured if done in the right way.
Knowing that Rambo had already been meant that someone had been shot at or worse as he pulled onto their street as he parked up and got out of the car. “Harris!” He called out as he made sure to grab his things as he looked around. “Steph, what’s going on? Everyone alright?” He added as he ran up to the front of the house glancing at Stephanie and Grace as his hand rested on the gun at his hip. He looked around for the husband though he didnt see anyone for a moment as he wondered if Stephanie was mid call or if he was on his way home.
Josh knew better than to just go straight into the house without a rundown first, he had gloves in his pockets for just that eventuality but he wasnt even sure what he was facing. Hostage rescue was his thing but it didnt seem like that was needed. More a badge of a fed he thought though he could do both and given his team leader status, all the better for being that annoying fed that tried to take over.

[attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]Stephanie Taylor [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"] Stephanie gave Grace a stern look. “Enough.” She snapped sharply. Grace was upset she got it but it wasn’t going to make it such that she didn’t’ need to call Ben. “No, it’s not a frog.” She retorted. Stephanie had enough of Grace begging for Ben not to be involved with this mess. “You have to trust me.” She reasoned as she picked up the phone to dial Ben’s number. There were a million ways to start the conversation and none of them good. No she’s just wait for him to answer and feel the situation out. That generally seemed to work well enough.
She swapped the phone to her bluetooth when she heard Josh calling for her. Stephanie kept one arm on Grace’s shoulder but had her back turned so she could talk to Josh. “She’s a bit shaken, but she’s gonna need some time.” Stephanie sighed and looked to Josh. “She stumbled into the crime scene inside and… she’s scared.” She’d almost forgotten about the phone call to Ben in her ear. “She’s afraid the local PD is going to blame her, she wasn’t even here I tried to explain but no beans.” Stephanie glanced over to the house.
Stephanie would have taken the case in a heartbeat and made sure that CPD was doing their due diligence. “I’m trying to reach my husband now.” Stephanie ran her hand through Grace’s hair and tried to keep her calm. Stephanie wasn’t ready for the fight of the century but so help her if Ben started to blame Grace for any of this. It wasn’t about to go over well. “Not that I think he’s going to understand any of it, but I’m not about to start hiding things.” She sighed. “Especially not something like this.” She bit her lip and started taking deep breaths. “I’ve seen worse than this and some even this close to home.” She indicated her head to Grace. “She’s my first priority right now. Can you do some digging for me Cameron?” she asked but her voice was full of hesitation. More so because Stephanie didn’t ask for help often.

Grace seeing the stern look, it only made her want to cry even more. She had tried to explain, she really had and now Stephanie was asking her to trust her. She had just snapped at her? The world was ending it really was and no one was listening to her. Her dad, nope there wasnt anything more she could do it seemed as she watched Stephanie dial her dad’s number. Trust was the very thing she was trying to do when there was a body in the house, she wasn’t sure if she was leaving and Stephanie was calling practically the most sensitive person to this kind of thing in the world.
“I trust you Stephanie.” Grace said quietly as she threw her arms around her when Josh started calling out. Grace could hear what was being said as she stared at the guy that was there. That was her friend she had called, well hopefully he could do something more than look like a giant with another gun and badge. There were too many people going around, too many people in the house that she didnt know. It wasnt until there were people that Grace realised that she didnt like the intrusion at all.
Sure a few were okay, family was fine but people she didnt even know looking around the house. It was bad enough there had been someone in there before and what they had done. People were coming and going as she watched Stephanie wondering when her dad would pick up or even how Stephanie would start that conversation. ‘Ben there’s a body on the kitchen floor’ or ‘Don’t worry there’s a thousand cops around they’re just removing the dead person from the house’. Yeah she was glad she was fourteen and not making that call.
Stephanie’s hand through her hair helped her calm down for the most part though when Grace heard Stephanie’s voice full of hesitation that was the scary part. “Stephanie, are you okay? I really didnt mean to make you snap, I... you know... it was...” Grace asked nervously not sure if this was the start of something her dad or Zach usually dealt with. Sure Achilles had come to her a few times but she wasnt the one who he normally alerted. Grace put her hand on Stephanie’s back as she started to rub circles on her, Grace was attempting to be soothing but she was only try to do what her dad had said to.

Josh glanced at the teenager that seemed shaken, sure a find of a body wasn’t exactly the most calming experience life could throw at you. Even for a cop it could be difficult but now Josh was mostly used to it in the sense that his stomach didnt churn as it used to do. “Understandable given she’s just a kid.” Josh said trying to work out if it was Stephanie’s kid though he guessed not given the lack of family resemblance so that meant it was the mysterious husbands.
He almost wanted to bring up the wedding invite situation though outside a crime scene that was her home he figured there was a wrong time and this was that. “Local PD, great you couldn’t have called the feds first?” Josh said with a slight smirk, local PD was his own personal hatred when he knew how this was about to go. “You know what they’re like no explaining only what their minds think but I’ll get it straightened out, so the kid wasn’t here when this happened. Stumbled into it afterwards.” Josh stated as he glanced around at the other cops.
He could already feel the daggers being stared at his head. Watching Stephanie and Grace he just smiled and nodded, for once Josh was glad he wasnt on notification duty as this one was a bundle of snakes he was sure. Josh nodded to Stephanie, hadn’t they all seen worse on their bad days though he had to admit he would be all over PD to make a good job of this one. Not for any other reason than Stephanie and she counted as the one person who had stayed around in a way.
Josh nodded as he wondered off to the front door only to he poked in the shoulder by a cop. Great and so it began as he flashed his badge and glared. “Move.” He barked not waiting on the guy as he stepped around him carefully to avoid any evidence as he made his way following the strange foot prints to the body. He could see why the kid was maybe traumatised by it all as he watched PD dust for prints as he motioned to the doors they hadn’t done and the knife block in the kitchen.

Ben had just gotten back to the house with Squad and was ready for a change of clothes, the smoke got everywhere. Fire in a residential house, three floors of chaos and more smoke than you could shake a stick at. All in all it had been a successful run, the family was safe, pets too and after a brief clear up it was back to the house and a shower that he was dying for. He had made it to the locker room to pull out his towel when he heard his phone going. He pulled it from his pocket as he saw it was Stephanie, what was it with them and showers as he grinned. Ben glanced around seeing the locker room was quiet as he answered the phone. “How did you know I was just going to grab a shower?” He asked her though before he knew what was going on he heard words like ‘seen worse than this’ and ‘close to home’ followed by ‘she’s my first priority and a Cameron digging’. What was this call as he checked ID on his phone. Stephanie, it was her and her voice though none of what he had heard made sense. “Steph? What’s going on?” He asked curiously as he shoved the towel back in his locker, shut the door and sat down on the bench there. He knew better than to just walk out on shift but he just hoped Stephanie was talking about a TV series or anything that might explain those words he had heard. “Are you okay? What’s happening?” He asked quickly after his second question. He had that sinking feeling hearing the hesitation in her voice but there was nothing he could do about it. Ben had no clue what was happening other than he assumed it was shower radar. Of all things right at that moment he would have taken her call about a shower over anything. What he knew was her voice betrayed that a shower was likely the last thing on her mind and he was missing the picture of whatever this was. Stephanie Taylor, Grace Taylor,

[attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]Stephanie Taylor [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"] Stephanie was exhausted with all of this. Grace was terrified and Ben was probably going to lose his mind. She had Josh here and her trust in her former CO made things a little bit easier, at least it eased her mind. Though only slightly as she could hear Grace’s voice. “Given the circumstances… pretty sure alright is a far cry from the right answer.” She replied to Grace hugging her. “But not something I haven’t handled before many times okay. Just let me worry about things and try and calm down a little. "
“Local PD was already here when I arrived. You were my first phone call Josh.” She reminded him. Normally, she may have played into his joking but there was a lot going on right now. “Grace wasn’t here when it happened. Contaminated scene.” Stephanie explained to Josh as she held onto Grace. It wasn’t until she heard Ben’s voice on the phone that she realized she had made another phone call.
“Ben.” She sighed. “There is a lot going on right now. Myself and the children are alright. Grace stumbled into something, but I think you should come home. She could use your support right now.” Well there was more than one way to tell Ben that he didn’t need to yell and scream at her. Grace was upset. Stephanie could see that. She just held her rubbing her back as she talked to Ben.
“Please drive careful.” No, he didn’t need to speed home like a speed demon. “We aren’t going anywhere. We will be here when you get here.” That much was a promise. It was then that Cameron wandered off into the house and all Stephanie could do was sit there with Grace, hoping that her husband didn’t scream and yell at her. Telling him over the phone was not something she was willing to do. Explaining that his mother was dead and that his daughter had found the dead body… yeah that was not something to think about while in traffic.
“Miss Harris, we’d like you to answer a few questions.” One of the local officers stated.
“It’s Mrs. Taylor, and I’ve already spoken to the FBI. I will not answer any questions right now.” Stephanie snapped at the man. “Agent Cameron has any information you need from me.” Not that she was doing anything more than forcing the PD to play with the FBI. Josh would make sure the PD didn’t try anything stupid. No one liked the FBI breathing down their necks.

Stephanie had a point, alright nothing about that day was alright. She had been scared out of her mind from the minute her dad had dragged her out from the back of the couch to get to school. Now there was a dead person in the house and not even a person she liked even though they were related. Grace simply hugged Stephanie back hoping to at least make things alright for her if she could. “I am calm... calm as I am going to be and no you can’t worry about anything Stephanie. You shouldn’t worry it will be okay.” Grace said trying to at least help Stephanie.
Even if it made little sense but it calmed her down trying to calm someone else down. “You’ve enough on at the moment so calm, be very calm.” Grace stated trying to attempt to do what she had seen her dad do with Stephanie at times. So sure they argued a lot and a whole bunch of other things but still if it worked then all Grace wanted to do was help in any way she could. It at least took her mind off what was going on in the house.
The people there, looking through everything as she felt a little like a criminal without having done anything. Grace nodded when Stephanie spoke about her not being there when it happened. “Nope wasn’t here, didn’t do it I swear.” She said to the tall guy though really Grace didnt care if he knew that or not because Stephanie said she had it figured out. So in Grace’s mind it had to be figured out because out of everyone there, Stephanie was the one person she trusted in it all.
Grace listened to Stephanie speak to her dad, oh she could only imagine what was going to happen though when her name was mentioned Grace shook her head. She didnt speak but her dad’s support, yeah no she could see her dad going to pieces over it all so that might be the other way around. No Grace was glad it was Stephanie making the call because her dad’s level of crazy was more than she could handle that day.
Until the officer asked for Stephanie to answer questions. When she snapped Grace jumped a little as she glared at the officer. What did people say when they were in trouble or being asked questions. “And she wants a lawyer too!” Grace stated as she crossed her arms attempting to look confident as she leaned back to Stephanie for a moment. “Do we need one of those?” She asked in a whisper, not entirely sure but she said it anyway simply because she had seen it on TV.

Josh just smiled as he watched Grace and Stephanie together, at least Stephanie had found a good family he thought glad to see she had done well for herself. Still it wasnt exactly well to find a body on the floor of the family home though he was happy she had called him, it got him out of a nightmare of a day and he actually got to help the one person. Yes that one person who never asked for help or very rarely which was also great because he knew that he had asked her for a few favours over the years.
“Okay well that’s good then, glad you still know my number.” He said smiling a little though he guessed she wasnt playing along right now because of the circumstances. It wasnt exactly the usual he guessed. “Even better, love those two words. Contaminated scene.” He stated as he took a breath, just what was needed more people in a scene that involved in his mind family. Josh waited for a moment as Stephanie spoke with her husband, he wondered how the guy would take it though Stephanie in his mind was remarkably tactful in what she said.
He wondered into the house after that, following a trail of prints to the door in the kitchen as he had a forensic guy follow him. He motioned to everything he wanted photographed and dusted for prints as he glanced around in the back garden looking for anything that could lead them anywhere. Sure enough he saw the prints on the fence and date where whoever it was tried to get out which meant that it wasnt the teenager. Because she would know her own home well enough to easily get out of the garden.
Josh made his way back through the house to ask Stephanie some questions when he saw one of the officers doing just that. He stood back and watched as he grinned hearing Stephanie. “Officer you might want to go out back for a moment, take a look at the scene then come back to me when you’ve figured it all out.” Josh suggested as he stood there for a moment. “So Mrs. Taylor the kid is off the hook as far as the feds are concerned. Any theories as to who might have wanted Mrs. Taylor Senior d... gone?” He asked wondering if they had any insight into things. “I’m leaning home invasion over the latter so far but if you’ve any information.” He added knowing that Stephanie knew the drill.

Ben smiled hearing her voice on the phone though he could tell it was hardly just a checking in call. A lot going on, Stephanie never said that normally as there was usually a lot going on anyway. Shifts to work, kids to get to school and look after. It was a juggling act most days though the words myself and the children are alright Ben knew it was more serious than a plate of jelly had spilled onto the cream carpet. Ben hardly knew what to think as he knew how that morning had gomne with his mother. The threats made and yelling, he knew that he might have scared Grace by dragging her out from behind the couch but he never wanted his daughter to hear what was said. His mother was, evil was about the best word for it and ever since the fire things between them had never really worked out. He could imagine she had made that call to social services to take the kids away though he leapt to that conclusion as he tried not to sound angry on the phone. It would solve nothing. “I’m on my way, just stay there and I will be home as soon as.” He said as he mumbled something about a family emergency to the shift chief. Where was Boden when you needed him though this shift was extra so sure a different chief was bound to be on duty. Ben jumped into the car without giving the chief much of an option to let him go, he knew he would likely get told off about it but that was a later issue. “Stephanie, are you sure you’re all safe?” He asked her not sure what the problem was but he had his own ideas. His mother could be a spiteful person at times though he never thought she would go through with it. His driving was less than careful he had to admit, he needed to get home and of course the way to do that meant speed. Ben placed the phone on speaker as he sat it in the passenger seat as he took off driving. “What’s happened exactly? If it’s social services I’ll explain when I get home but they are not going anywhere with the kids.” Ben said not sure what had been said so far as Ben had been unable to catch up with Stephanie about it all. He wanted to wait until later to explain and only if he had to, his mother was a subject he avoided most of the time. “Tell them I’ll quit my job, anything they need me to do, it is done.” Ben stated not sure what he was heading into but it was hardly good he was sure. [attr="class","trying"] [attr="class","we1"] [attr="class","lost1"]Stephanie Taylor [attr="class","rise"] [attr="class","dying1"] [attr="class","mouths1"] Stephanie was glad that by the time Grace had blurted out something about a lawyer that the officer was on his way back in the house. “Grace. Just don’t say anything.” Stephanie warned her. Stress was getting high on multiple accounts. Stephanie was really hoping that Ben could settle things with Grace. Stephanie needed to talk to Josh one on one without Grace’s comments. It wasn’t something she enjoyed doing, giving anyone a contaminated scene. She knew know that they had to get Grace’s fingerprints, DNA sample, clothing strands tested, as well as shoe imprints. It was going to be a long night.
Even if she wasn’t a suspect they were going to have to be able to track where she moved in the crime scene. “That’s a better question for my husband.” She was being honest. “I need to fill you in later, in private.” No she was hardly going to bring everything up with Grace again. “After her dad gets here, you and I can talk.” Well of course after she spoke to Ben to calm him down. Right now she knew despite the distance between mother and son that Ben wasn’t going to take this very easily. It wasn’t as hard on Stephanie from that perspective but it was her husband’s state of mind that worried her. Hearing his voice on the phone she knew.
“Ben. I told you. We can discuss it when you get here.” Stephanie wasn’t going to say anymore and it wasn’t until she saw Ben’s car pull in that she said much more. This wasn’t a phone conversation. That’s just there were better ways of doing things. Next step was keeping Ben out of the house. She left Grace under the watchful eye of Josh for the moment as she went to stop him from getting out of the car. Right now, she needed to talk to him without little ears listening.
With her hand on the open driver’s door she reached in and turned off the car. “Look at me Benjamin. Please?” She had the serious look on her face as she pointed to the crime tape. “Grace came home and stumbled into a mess. She’s alright. Whatever happened here, she wasn’t here when it happened.” Stephanie put a hand on Ben’s face. “She went inside. The cops have to sort through all of everywhere she stepped, touch. I called in a favor. But that’s the best news I have for you.” Oh she hated notifications. “Your mom… she was killed. Right now, that’s all we know until my former CO can get me more details.”
Stephanie reached for Ben’s hand. “I’m in the middle of sorting this all out but Grace needs you with her right now. I have to go talk to the FBI.” She knew that probably wasn’t what he wanted to here but she remained there for a moment. Stephanie wanted to assess his state of mind and find out what he needed. She pocketed his keys and reached to pull him in a hug.

Grace just looked at Stephanie, now she wasn’t supposed to say anything? This day was getting to be more confusing by the minute though following Stephanie’s words. Grace felt silent and just chose to glare that the officer that had spoken to Stephanie. There was just too much going on for her, the images in her head. The feeling of wanting to be sick over and over again. It just wouldn’t stop as she listened to Stephanie talk to the other agent.
If the cops couldnt fix it, what were the feds going to do and this guy seemed to be more of a hulk than an agent at anything. Right her dad needed to get there, it was like that part in any mystery novel she read. The moment when you realised what was going to happen and how many ways to hell it was going to her. Her dad arriving into all of this was that point for her. Grace knew her dad freaked out at a frog, he went nuts at the fact she had gone to a sleep over... sure the house set on fire and she nearly died.
But it stopped any further sleepovers from happening for her. Her dad was that guy and now his mother was laying dead on the floor. No Stephanie was going to have a job trying to work out what end of the cliff her dad was going to go off. Lucky she hadn’t been around for her mother’s death or at least remembered it, nor his other family but the smaller scale stuff was enough for her to know that something this big. Yeah it was a nightmare that was actually happening. Grace saw the familiar car draw up as she took that breath that seemed to last forever.
Being left with the hulk, Grace just stared at him for a second before she retreated to the wall to take cover. She wasnt even sure she wanted to see what was going on as she curled up at the bottom of the wall and brought her knees to her chest. She peeked through her fingers as she watched Stephanie go to the car. Like this needed to go any worse she thought as she hide her face not wanting to see what would happen.

Josh was trying to work out if it was a simple home invasion gone wrong, but boy did the burglars pick the wrong house. Not every day the feds got involved but then again it could be more sinister. Just because they were elderly doesn’t meant that enemies couldnt be made. Sure they would do the usual check with neighbours or arguments or suspicious activity. It was all part of the job but going straight to the source her and a source he trusted more than any other. It made sense to him to ask Stephanie about it all.
“Sure, I can ask when he’s here.” Josh said though how helpful her husband was going to be would be anyone’s guess. His mother was murdered and that didnt sit right with anyone. “Of course, just wait for this mysterious husband of yours. Still waiting for the wedding invite... take it the post lost it.” He said trying to be funny but then again it wasnt exactly the right moment but it was Josh. So the moment he didnt really bother about. Sure he wasnt bitter about it but then sure he would have loved to meet the guy that married Stephanie under a lot better circumstances.
Being left with Grace, Josh wondered just how insane Stephanie was in that moment. Kids, he didnt know what to do with them or what to tell them usually. Grace wasnt being held hostage or in danger so he was way out of what he was comfortable with. He watched her curl up by the wall as he patted her head for a moment. “Yeah you know it might be better than you think, people can surprise you.” He said though he didnt even get a laugh or a reaction as she blocked the kids eye line to whatever storm might happen at the car.
No use in letting her worry about that too he figured as he glanced over his shoulder to see if Stephanie would require help or if the guy would be rational or shocked or simply in pieces. It was anyone’s guess since he hadn’t met him or even got to run a background check on the guy. Yeah he married Stephanie without a background check, so not on though now he guessed he could take care of all of that.

Discuss it when he got there, no nothing that was just minor could be discussed over the phone. It was like work, anything major came in a certain way and when you ask for the information it was a seen to believe situation. With his family involved Ben wanted nothing more than for it to be spilled milk on the new rug try not to be angry call. Ben sighed as he agreed and simply drove home. If it took him leaving work, being home full time he could do that. Just as he had done with Grace was a baby, he found a way to make things work and no one was going to do anything with the kids at all. When Ben pulled the car onto their street and he saw the mass of cars and lights there he all but froze. Pulling up outside of the of house where he could get a space Ben was unsure what had happened. Fire maybe? But that call would have gone through fifty one, gas leak and the same conclusion as he made a break to get out of the car. Ben barely had the door open before he saw Stephanie with her hand on the open door. “What is going on?” He asked though the car engine was turned off as he nodded. “I’m looking.” He said as he stared at Stephanie though the serious look, no something was very wrong. He could feel the panic set in when she mentioned Grace and a mess, she was alright Stephanie had said that as his mind when to what could have possibly happened. Nothing fire department related for sure and he swore if it was that frog then the school could gladly have him back. The moment he felt her hand on his face Ben was torn between fear and worry. All he could do was sit there in silence and listen to what the cops had to sort out. Cops were in their house, their home? Ben was about to push himself out of the car seat, he even had a foot on the tarmac road though he simply dropped back into the seat when he heard Stephanie make that notification. Everything after that came in waves; he hardly heard what Stephanie was talking about. A CO, was she going back into one of her PTSD moments though the lights, cars, tape said he was all but in it with her. He hated to have to tell anyone that they were unable to save a relative or loved one. He knew how it felt to get that news but even after a father and brother’s notification. It still hit him as hard as he sat there staring at Stephanie. Ben felt Stephanie take his hand as he let her for a moment or two though when he realised what she said, all he could do grip her hand tightly. “I can’t right now... don’t.” He said trying to breathe though even that seemed to take as much effort as he had. No he had to be calm as he had more of a dead look is his eyes, the usual smile and happy side of life completely gone with a few words. “You’re right; you need to go talk to the FBI.” Ben said which was likely the only sensible idea in his head. The eerily calm fashion, too calm and the sort of calm that meant only one thing. He was the furthest thing from it though for right now, calm was all he had. Even the fact that the FBI was involved never registered as more than his mother was dead, Ben had no idea what was going on. Ben hugged Stephanie before he pulled away, no anymore and he would break and that was the last thing he wanted. He never cried in front of Stephanie, ever. It was his one thing he never did that or tried not to. This was far from normal and suddenly he felt like there were too many people to be hugging Stephanie. He knew faces from work, the paramedics that were hovering no; he needed to keep it together. “Where’s Zach? Is he okay? Was he here?” Ben asked one child was there but where was the other as he glanced at his watch. “School, is he at school? Why isn’t she at school? Are you alright?” Ben asked calmly though as he looked around he frantically pushed himself from the car though he kept an arm around Stephanie. “I should find Grace, you need the FBI or CO or... details.” Ben said knowing he made sense to himself if no one else right then. Stephanie Taylor, Josh Cameron,
