“Thanks and don’t worry if she wasn’t I would kick her out myself. Then again I interfere with your relationships so it would only be fair for you to do the same to me. On the other hand though I am your brother so it is a job requirement for me to meddle in your relationships.” He said sure that it would never ever stop happening though by the sounds of this Josh character. Yes his meddling was going straight to the fire house to dig up whatever information he could on the guy before he lost sight of his sister for good.
Steven fixed her with a glance, ‘seen her in passing’ well that was a new one on him he thought trying to not freak out over that. It was the ICU what did he really expect when his sister worked at the hospital, he could hardly ban her from the ICU or guard the woman’s door for days on end. “Phew, well that’s a relief.” He joked though he would be excited to introduce his sisters to her if it ever got that far. His track record with these things was hardly the best. He chuckled and nodded when she spoke about the concept being extreme.
“You know me, where is the fun in them just falling at my feet... the sky now that is something else. It was an interesting story; I’ve never had a woman be so snarky with me when she’s injured. I mean not like I could stop the waves on the beach, pull her out and keep her warm all at once. I am only a Steven after all.” He said with a sigh as he grinned, it had been a very interesting day or shift if he was specific on the matter. There were days like that though a plane versus being held hostage now that was a day he was glad to miss though he wished Emily had missed that one too.
“That bad... you were worse.” Steven teased as he nodded to her grinning though when he saw her look to the floor he half wanted to fix what he had said. He knew their dad would be proud and he tried to tell both his sisters that though he knew it was a sore subject for everyone. “Hey, it’s what anyone would have done so it’s fine and I’m just happy to see that I haven’t damaged you both too much.” He tried to make a joke of it and he knew their mother would have done it had she been able to; it was just one of those things in life that he got on and did.
“Thank you for saying that and I didn’t miss out on anything I didn’t want to miss out on. I chose to do what I did so don’t for a second think that I would change any of it. I mean sure my cooking skills maybe but nothing else.” He said, sure there were always going to be points he wanted to change. The fact that he had lost his wife within six months of being married, he would have changed that if he could have, the same with their father. The times that he had managed to fail both of his sisters but sure they had all come out of the other side of it. “It won’t but thank you all the same. Though since you mentioned it...” He said grinning at her for a moment before he shook his head.
There was no chance he would let that go to his head as he could feel the beginning of a lump in his throat as he looked away from Emily a moment. No he was hardly going to cry, not in front of family or anyone because he was the brother and the one that just handled things he thought as he took a breath. Hearing her laugh he nodded grinning again. “Woah wait a second... you were distracting him for stitches? How old is this guy? Two?” Steven asked as he raised his brow, “Or is ‘distracting him’ code for something?” What grown guy needed a distraction for stitches he wondered trying to not over react to the information.
Steven wanted to follow her a lunch comment with an ‘I bet he did’ but then he knew the guys name and that was it. He had helped his sister escape what in his mind was death so there had to be something nice to say about the man, it lasted up until he saw her smile when she spoke about it. “Mess it up, I won’t I just want to know my sister is with a good guy that is all.” He said wondering if there would be anything to find out about the man. Everyone had their issues though if he was too clean then there were bodies to be found as he considered just going and directly talking to the guy.
“There is nothing wrong with Velcro, I hear it’s making a come back.” He stated chuckling as he nodded to her. “Oh now that sounds even better, if you can teach me you get a medal alright. I cannot afford another department call out or I will have to move fire house or city.” He was lucky that fifty one were understanding about his lack of sense when it came to burning things like that, the few call outs that he had to make rather than handle a stove fire himself had left him embarrassed and considering skipping work for a few weeks. Then again he was a paramedic, fires were not his department.
“He better have told you that you impressed him, you impress anyone Emily.” He said nodding as grinned at her, “Yes yes, you can handle all sorts of things Emily. I don’t doubt you and I give you a lot of credit, best gravy maker, fantastic sister but no to trying to get into hostage situations. I’m sure you can handle it since the expert said so but not again.” He said not wanting to ban her from it but then he hardly wanted to make out that it was okay to go around getting held hostage by patients. “I can roll my eyes and good, don’t make a habit of it unless you want to kill me off with a heart attack.” He said after she stamped her foot.
Steven looked at the dessert, she had a point pretty was hardly what was going for it he thought but then he hoped it tasted great. “Yeah you think so?” He asked as he shook his head, “I’ve no idea how you make them so pretty and you were mad about it? I envied you’re desserts because they look so great and they still tasted good too.”
