“I guess I’ll take getting held at knifepoint off of my list of things to do to get a guy to notice me.” She said with a laugh. “I promise you I don’t need stitches, in fact I’m fairly certain that it barely broke the skin… Sam wasn’t trying to hurt me, pretty sure it was an accident.” Emily nodded in agreement and smiled as Josh spoke of her brother. “You don’t know the half of it, he… well without him my sister and I wouldn’t have made it as far as we have. It’s a fairly long story, that I’m sure you’ll hear if you hang around long enough.” When he mentioned that he had to ask her for help today she snorted, “You only asked for help because I made you, I get the feeling that you don’t particularly like asking other people for help either mister. I didn’t mind asking you for help today though, maybe because I knew I was in way over my head.” She never thought she’d meet someone at work, much less go through being held hostage by a patient with him before they even went out. Hey at least they’d have an interesting story to tell when anyone asked them how they met. She was getting ahead of herself here, they hadn’t even made it to lunch yet and there was a good possibility that he could easily decide that he didn’t like her as much as he thought he did once they sat down to eat. She blushed when she heard him tell her she would be a great negotiator, “Yeah… I don’t think I was designed for that whole hostage thing, I think I’ll leave that up to the professionals from here on out if you don’t mind.” She laughed and stuck her tongue out at him when he went on about modified duty, “I’m off the rest of today, and tomorrow… that will be plenty of time for my little scratch to heal. In fact I’m still planning on going for my morning jog tomorrow, unless that’s against the rules doctor.” She smiled and nodded when he asked if she had seen all of that, “Yes, I’m pretty observant. Always have been, but it comes in handy with the job too. Don’t even waste your time trying to come up with another excuse because you’re busted already.” When he admitted that she wasn’t wrong she smiled up at him, “Normally I don’t like it when people ignore my advice, so don’t getbut in this case I’m actually pretty happy that you didn’t listen to me.” She couldn’t be too upset with him because she knew that she would have done the exact same thing if the roles had been reversed, some people were just wired to put the needs of others before their own. She caught herself before she told him that he could be her doctor any day, but just smiled at him instead. “I say short of the few minutes that Sam was protecting me from you, today has been a pretty good day. I’m not glad that you got injured, but I’m glad you came to see me today. Just promise me you’ll try not to make a habit of getting hurt like this, it could have been so much worse. You really need to be careful.” Great she chided herself, now I sound like an over protective worrier. She realized she really was over protective and worried a lot about the people she cared about most, and then tried to figure out where all this had come from. She had after all just met him today, maybe it had something to do with everything they had both been through today that had her feeling all peculiar. She nodded, “It will be fun, I can tell already. I’ll even let you check on me, but just so that I can prove to you that I’m going to be just fine. Takes more than a guy with a knife to make me fall apart, I’m stronger than I look. I think I can make an exception to the rule of not needing anyone to take care of me, but only because it’s you and only if you promise to stop beating yourself up over all of this.” She normally didn’t like people acting all protective of her, and treating her like she couldn’t handle things on her own. For some reason it didn’t seem to bother her when Josh did it, in fact it felt kind of nice to let someone worry about her for a change. So if getting to spend more time with him meant letting him fuss over her and her little scratch she decided that she was ok with that. She would much rather be going to lunch with Josh than deal with her brother right now. She decided that it would be best to let things blow over for a few days before mentioning anything to him, unless he managed to hear about it and cornered her first. Emily was glad that this wasn’t something she went through every day and had no earthly idea how Josh dealt with all of this on a regular basis. Took a special person to do a job like this, and until you needed them you never really even knew they were out there. She was certainly glad that he had been there for her today. She shook her head and smiled when he said she was worth fussing over, “Well if the coffee’s that bad maybe I’ll have to stop by and bring you some good coffee someday to go with your donuts. Just so you don’t have to suffer through the sludge they probably serve there. Local law enforcement is probably just jealous, so I wouldn’t take their general dislike too seriously.” Sure Emily wasn’t above admitting that a man in uniform was nice to look at, but she’d never been the silly type to chase anyone around because of it. She had known a few women that took the term badge bunny to the extreme, and she’d never had much respect for anyone like that. Besides the uniform eventually came off, and you were left with the person. She shook her head, “No… I guess me being so independent can be kind of scary for some guys, I mean I don’t know. Sure sometimes I get offers from patients, but generally nothing that I take seriously.” She grinned and cocked her head when he said that he’d like to get to know her better too, “So… I haven’t scared you away yet? I guess that’s a good sign.” She nodded when he thanked her for fixing him up and letting him take her to lunch, “It’s truly been my pleasure to get to take care of you and going to lunch with you is just an added bonus.” When he went on to say that her smile made him smile, she couldn’t help but smile and hope he didn’t notice that he’d made her blush again. After sitting there holding his hand for a few minutes, Emily grew impatient and stood up still holding his hand. “Ok, I don’t know about you but I’m ready to get out of this place. How about we go grab your discharge papers and you can walk me to the locker room and wait for me while I change out of these scrubs. I certainly don’t want to spend the rest of the day in them, seeing as they’re letting me out of here early.” Tag: Josh Cameron

“You think that would get a guy to notice you, you’re very easy to notice so yeah you don’t have to go around doing that.” He said grinning as he shrugged, “See I’m no doctor so I can’t say yes or no to stitches and you’re right, Sam doesn’t understand what he’s doing but what he did was wrong.” Josh said knowing that sometimes it was a fine line between the two, what was wrong and right to him was entire different to Sam and explaining that to him was going to be tough. Once he got back on his meds he’d likely understand a lot more but that didnt help what had happened already.
“He sounds like a great guy and he’s lucky to have you as his sister too.” He said not sure what her story could be but then everyone’s was different. If he had done enough for his sisters to get where they are then that was good enough by him because from where Josh stood Emily was great. “Okay I admit I’m rubbish when it comes to asking for help but then I’m used to just deal with things on my own. I’m more than happy to help you whenever you need it but you did great today, not over your head at all.” Josh had seen people crack that had worked for hostage rescue under similar circumstances it just took one thing to shake a person and Emily had been rock solid all the way through.
The how you met, well someone took her hostage and I just helped get her back. He guessed people had met in stranger ways but then he didnt mind much about first meeting story, at least no one had been hurt and it wasnt a ‘yes I spend a week in the hospital’ story. Then again before that there was lunch and letting his mind run away with him was that such a great idea? “Gladly, I wouldnt want you to put me out of a job, so if you do plan on doing this again just try to make it within my working hours.” He teased lightly when she stuck her tongue out at him. “A jog, hmmm well as long as it doesn’t interfere with your wound. I think I can pass that.” He said thoughtfully as he wondered about jogging too, oh he’d try it and if he ended up calling it quits half way around he’d try it again the next day.
Josh grinned at her as she spoke about being observant, well that had worked against him he thought. “I’m not trying, busted is busted so I plead the fifth. I’m not saying another word.” He stated grinning at her, “Well I’m glad I ignored your advice too, not that I would have done... sort of but you know. If ignoring it this time helped you out who am I to take advice.” He said grinning, she needed help and there wasnt any way that he was going to walk away from that at all. No he had a job to do and that was to get her out of there which he did and Sam was safe now too so all was well for the day.
“Make it a habit, I mean if I get to see you sure but I’ll try to avoid people who have knives in future. Can’t make any promises but i’ll try.” He said grinning at her protectiveness. He never knew what was going to happen in a day but that was work, when he was off he usually expected to just go about his day unlike today but still it had ended pretty well. “You promise too not to go and get held hostage, the ER can be a dangerous place too.” The thought of her getting caught up in anything like that just wasnt worth thinking about, the fact of what could have happened seemed much worse now than it had done five minutes ago.
Josh nodded to her, “Well you being fine is all I want so sure i’ll check in on you and I’ve no doubt how strong you are. You showed that today so I’m impressed and fine, I’ll stop beating myself up over it but I’m sorry and I really mean that.” So there was no way he was going to not do that as there were plenty of things he could have done to prevent what had happened and yet he hadn’t done one of them. Yes Emily was alright but then it could have been different, a lot different given Sam.
Josh was usually protective over people but not generally those he had just met. Emily was, well Emily was special and one of those once in a life time people he figured. The sort that he felt lucky to meet let alone talk to as he stood there. He found his job rewarding, the good outweighed the bad mostly and if there was one person he could help get back home to their family then it was a job well done no matter what the day was like. Josh laughed as he nodded, “You had me sold on donuts.” He said grinning at her. “No I think I’m just used to the dislike by now, then again jealous is probably right. We get a bigger truck.” He stated grinning, so sure sometimes the budgets did run a little deep for the FBI than the local authorities but he knew how to share.
“Independent is good, not scary at all and just being yourself.” He said smiling though for some reason he was glad that she didnt take the offers too serious, wait why was he even thinking like that he wondered though when she cocked her head and grinned he just smiled at her. “No takes a lot to scare me away.” He said grinning, hostage situations usually attracted him so really if she was aiming for that it had the wrong effect, he wasnt about to run out on something like that. “Well bonus or not thank you and it’s the least I could do.” He said smiling, she was one in a million and taking her to lunch yes that was the best part of his day.
Josh could have stayed there and held her hand forever as she stood up. “Now that sounds like a plan, any nothing wrong with your scrubs they look great on you.” He said not sure if that was crossing a line of it he had just embarrassed everyone in one go. “But yeah I mean since they’re letting you go early might as well. So where do I find these papers?” He asked her grinning as he moved to the door and held it open for her.

Emily blushed when Josh called her easy to notice and nodded in agreement when he spoke about Sam. She had never really thought of herself as easy to notice, sure she’d had plenty of dates over the years but nothing that she ever truly considered to be serious. Most never lasted much past the first date because she had been so focused on her schooling and education that she hadn’t had the time or interest to invest in a serious relationship. She laughed when Josh pointed out that Steven was lucky to have her as a sister, “He might agree with you now, but I’m pretty sure he didn’t consider himself lucky when Isla and I were pestering him when we were kids.” She laughed and nodded when he admitted to being bad at asking for help before growing serious, “Nobody should have to face all of their problems alone, things are easier to handle when you know someone is there for you.” Emily shook her head when he mentioned putting him out of a job, “No need to worry about that, I couldn’t do what you do.” She smirked before joking, “I’ll be sure to schedule my next hostage situation during your business hours, would hate to have to call you in just to rescue me again.” Emily wasn’t used to someone other than her brother being this protective of her so when he talked about running only if it didn’t bother her wound she smiled at him, “I promise that if it even so much as twinges when I wake up I’ll just go back to sleep and forget the run in the morning, so if I could get that same promise from you for tomorrow morning that would be great. I’d hate to have to come in on my day off to hold your hand again so the doctor could fix you again.” She shrugged her shoulders and smiled when he said he’d try to avoid people with knives in the future, “There are better ways to get to see me again than coming in as a patient, I mean… you could just ask.” She smiled when he asked her to promise to not get held hostage again, “I promise that I’ll be more careful in the future and try to avoid getting held hostage, but if I ever do at least I’ll know who’s coming to save me… as long as I schedule it while you’re working.” She joked. “Now that I’ve had such amazing first aid I’m good as new, I promise.” She blushed again when he said he was impressed and smiled when he agreed to stop beating himself up over the incident. “Ok… now you’ve apologized and I’ve accepted so let’s not think about it anymore, because something tells me that you’re probably still trying to figure out what you could have done differently.” Emily laughed with Josh when he said she had him sold on donuts, “Donuts and coffee it is then.” She shook her head when he said he was used to being disliked, “You’d think it would make more sense if everyone could just work together without getting all bent out of shape, oooh a bigger truck? Is that all it takes? Guys and their trucks, I’ll never understand.” She smirked. When he said that independent was good and not scary she smiled, “You haven’t had to deal with me when I’m being stubborn.” She laughed as she continued, “Good think you haven’t talked to my brother he’d tell you how independent and stubborn I can be, but since I’m not trying to scare you away we’ll skip that interrogation… I mean introduction.” She smiled and shook her head when he thanked her saying it was the least he could do. “I really should be thanking you, but you’re welcome.” It felt nice to hold his hand, probably a little too nice. When he said that her scrubs looked great on her she snorted, “Thank you, but scrubs really don’t look good on anyone. I’ll be much more comfortable in my own clothes anyway.” When he held the door for her she walked out and waited for him to follow, stopping at the nurses station Emily asked for Josh’s papers so that they could leave. The other nurse handed a pack of papers to Josh and one for him to sign. “You sign your papers and wait here, I’ll be right out.” Emily said over her shoulder as she was walking towards the nurses lounge. Emily quickly changed into a pair of blue jeans and a teal long sleeved shirt and let her hair down. She ran a brush through her hair and took a quick look in the mirror deciding that it was the best it was going to get at this point and grabbed her bag to walk back out and find Josh. Josh laughed when she spoke about her brother, when he was a kid yes he had lots of so called brothers and sisters and a few worse ones at that as he remembered running away from foster care more times than he could count. Then again if he hadn’t have run away he never would have made it to where he was. “Oh I’m sure he did, it’s good to have family.” He said grinning, “That is true so you know, I’m right here today okay. Anything you want just say.” He offered though she was right it was easier to handle when someone else was there for you.
“Oh well if you plan on being taken hostage out of business hours then please make sure you call me. I wouldnt mind coming to rescue you again though probably safer for you not to be.” He teased grinning at her, he was trying to be protective mostly because he knew how things might have been and given that he liked her he didnt want that to happen. The Emergency Room was enough as it was he figured without people trying to take you hostage too. “That’s good and sure I can make the same promise because it wont hurt at all besides I wouldnt make you come in on your day off, not on my account anyway. You holding my hand might just change my mind on that though.”
What was he doing? If he was flirting then it was awful as he was mostly out of practice. He was a grown man asking a grown woman to hold his hand, this wasnt primary school. He was glad when she spoke again as he grinned at her, “Sure then I am just asking, I would like to see you again... past today I mean.” He said not sure if he was really making sense by this point. “Well you know, since it’s you I can make an exception to my working hours rule but I think I’d prefer if you stayed away from the hostage side of things at least for a few days you know.” He said chuckling lightly, it was much safer to stay away from being held hostage he thought.
Josh raised his brow at her lightly, how did she know he was thinking that still he wondered but then again maybe he was being that obvious about it. There were lots of things he could have done differently but what had been done was done, he sometimes needed to be reminded of that but then not thinking about it was alright by him. He knew he wasnt about to forget but then not going over it again was probably the better idea. “It would make more sense and it would be a lot easier but yeah it’s all about the trucks and what’s in them. Mine is better than your situation when if we all just were on the same page it would make things run smoothly.” He said grinning, oh he had attended many a scene where it was a fight to get along with local PD.
It made it interesting but there were days when interesting got in the way of work. “What this isn’t you being stubborn?” He asked her grinning, “I guess it’s good that i haven’t met your brother yet then I mean it would take a lot to scare me away but I think somehow he might be able to do that. Especially if it’s an interrogation.” Josh shook his head when she spoke about thanking him, no that wasnt how it worked in his head. “Nope, thank you for everything you’ve done for me today.” He said wanting her to know how much it meant. He wasnt used to people pushing him to do the right thing when it came to himself like get his side stitched up.
“Then you’re the exception to the rule then but sure your own clothes I am sure they look great too.” He said not really sure where he was going with that one as he chose to shut up before he said anything else strange. Following Emily to the nurses station he took the pack of papers handed to him and the one to sign as he went through them all. “Sure take your time no rush.” He said motioning to the papers. “Might be here a while.” He said as he set to reading them and signing what he needed to.
While he was stood there he asked for another top since his own was blood stained and that wasnt ever a great look. He quickly changed into the blue scrub top, not exactly what he was used to but it was better than a knife hole and a blood stained one. Standing at the nurses’ station he waited to see Emily again as he checked he had his wallet which he did so that was at least one good thing he had remembered that day as his eyes glanced in the direction she had previously gone.

Emily smiled at him, if they were flirting they were both doing a pretty bad job of it but she figured it seemed to be working. She blushed a bit but smiled even bigger when he said that he would like to see her again, past today. “I… uh, well actually I think I would like that… a lot.” She worried her bottom lip with her teeth for a moment but laughed when he said that since it was her he would make an exception. “Good to know that I can call in a favor if I need to… and only for a few days?? If it’s ok with you, I think I’d rather avoid the need for hostage rescue ever again. Not that it wasn’t totally worth it, just this once… but I couldn’t get this lucky twice in a row.” She grinned when he raised his brow at her, and cocked her head to the side a bit in response to his unasked question. She laughed a bit when Josh talked about how it was all about the trucks. “Men and their trucks… sometimes I wonder if they aren’t more obsessed with trucks than they are women. So Josh, tell me what is it about trucks that excites you all so much about trucks? I may just have to buy me one.” She joked. She playfully swatted his arm when he made his comment about her being stubborn, she shook her head and answered his question. “Trust me, you haven’t seen stubborn yet.” She shrugged at him when he said that it was a good thing he hadn’t met her brother yet, “Steven means well, he’s just a tad protective at times with good reason. He’s got two younger sisters that he’s had to look out for since he was fifteen.” She scoffed at him when he said her brother might be able to scare him away with an interrogation, “You mean to tell me… that you… a big bad FBI agent are scared of a paramedic and his attempt at interrogation?… I thought you were a professional, you should be able to handle Steven.” She smiled when he thanked her for everything she’d done, “You’re very welcome, I’d tell you I was just doing my job… but that wouldn’t be entirely true.” Emily had gone above and beyond what her job entailed to help Josh and she couldn’t really explain why, shrugging she added “There was just something about you that told me that I should make sure you were taken care of.” When he called her the exception to the rule she smiled and laughed, “Yeah my own clothes, I wish I could remember what I wore this morning… I might be better off staying in the scrubs after all.” She watched him grab the papers and set about looking at them, “Yeah, I should be back shortly… and judging from that stack of papers, I just might beat you.” When Emily came out of the locker room she saw him standing at the desk in a scrub top, she smiled at him when he glanced up at her. Walking up to him she fingered the material of the scrub top, laughing “So… Doctor Josh… this right here is a good look for you, I think it might even be your color.” Turning serious again she motioned to the stack of papers, “You all good, or do you have any questions?” Tag: Josh Cameron

Seeing her blush Josh smiled at her, okay well this was the moment of truth he thought if she wanted to see him again then she would say something, that was how this worked right? Josh had been out of this whole flirting game for years, well out of it or at least not practicing it which now felt like he should have been doing a better job. He could feel himself holding his breath when he heard her say that she would like it a lot. “Really?” He almost choked out though nodded, “Yeah no, I’d love to see you again.” He said stumbling over his own words a little. “I’m sure you could get that lucky again but I’d rather not test that theory, staying away from rescue situations i probably a good thing to do for a long time.”
Not that he didnt think she was capable of dealing with them but everyone’s luck had a way of running out and he didnt want to see Emily hurt for anything. Seeing her cocked her head to the side and her raised brow he just smiled. “Well if you do they are great things, and sure they are big and huge and have lots of fun toys in them and just... yeah trucks are great things. Bigger the better as you can get more gear in them. Sure you can get it in a Ford Escort but a truck is so much better.” He stated as he realised that he sounded a little truck nuts, well he liked them but he wasnt about to adopt a truck any time soon.
“Ouch, what was that for?” He asked her though he knew exactly what it was for, mostly about his stubborn comment. “Oh really?” He asked not sure how much more stubborn a person could actually get. “Since you were fifteen, he sounds like on tough guy and I can see why he’s protective. I would be too if I had younger sisters to look out for.” Josh could imagine he could be protective if he had younger sisters then again he figured that if he was fifteen and looking after them then something happened so he could see people being protective about family like that.
“Yeah we are, Paramedics know where it hurts most.” He said grinning as he nodded, “I’m professional but we hear stories about Paramedics from Chicago...” Josh knew a few rumours about some of the medics, some true some not so true but then he wasnt in the job to decipher them. “Well thank you for doing your job Emily and thank you for doing more than your job. I really appreciate it. There’s something that told me the same about you, mostly that I really shouldn’t leave you with the ice cream loving Sam. You know how these ice cream people can get.”
There was most certainly something about Emily, she was funny, smart, gorgeous, amazing and she had been held hostage and hadn’t cracked up which said a lot about her in his head. “I doubt that somehow. Whatever you wear I am sure it’s amazing.” He said grinning at her as he nodded watching her leave as he stared at the papers. Oh he hoped that she wasnt back before he finished though given the pile he was looking at. The paperwork on his desk looked like a breeze.
When Josh saw her again he grinned as he watched her finger the material of the scrub top. He felt like a fool wearing it but then again it was better than blood stained. “You think so? I would have gone for the purple but didnt think it would look as a good.” He stated grinning at her though when she motioned to the stack of papers he shook his head. “All good, think it’s signed in the right places. Though I should be asking you if you’re all good?” He asked her just wanting to make sure she was still okay.

She laughed, “This coming from someone who goes running into situations like this all the time without thinking twice about it?” Emily had no intention of buying herself a truck, but watching him talk about them made her smile. “Well if I ever find myself in need of a truck I’ll take you truck shopping with me, I’d need an expert opinion.” Something about Josh made him easy to talk to. When he asked her why she swatted his shoulder, “You really have to ask? You just called me stubborn, and while it’s ok for me to call myself that you’re supposed to say, ‘I couldn’t ever imagine you being stubborn’. At least that’s how this conversation was supposed to go in my head.” She laughed. Yeah… when he was fifteen he got stuck taking care of us, probably not what any fifteen year old boy wants to do. Steven never made us feel like a burden and he always made sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed. He’s pretty special.” She giggled, “But nurses choose the size of your IV and catheter, you should probably be a little more scared of me than you are him. Besides, I’d have to beat him up if he tried anything. It wouldn’t be the first time.” She nodded and smiled when he thanked her again, “You’re very welcome, Happy to help you. If you’d left me alone with Sam I would have hunted you down and made you pay for running away.” She joked before turning serious again, “I really do appreciate you being here for me, it meant a lot to know I wasn’t dealing with things by myself. I mean you saw how much help my coworkers were.” Emily was smitten. Josh was good looking, sweet, funny, hard working, and had been there for her in the middle of the mess she had found herself in when most people would have gone the other direction. She blushed when he talked about her clothes, “Yeah, if you say so.” She smiled. She laughed when he mentioned the purple top, “Any color you had chosen would be fine, but I think this one is definitely better.” Hearing him mention that the papers were signed in all the right places she smiled, “Good, then let’s get out of here. I’ve better things to do this afternoon than hang out in the ER.” Laughing she shook her head when he asked if she was all good, “I’m great, I promise. If I wasn’t I’d let you know.” Emily really was ok by this point, everything had worked out for the best and all she had was a little scratch. She’d met Josh and he’d helped her through it, and now she was going to lunch with him. How she’d be in the middle of the night she wasn’t sure, but for right now she was great. She smiled at Josh grabbing his hand, “Lead the way.” Josh Cameron

“Trust me it’s good advice coming from the someone who does that for a living but yes thinking is overrated at times.” Josh grinned, he thought a lot about his work and what he did though there were times when thinking wasnt able to be done. Today Emily needed his help and he wasnt going to walk away from that no matter what was going on. “Please do, I don’t know everything about them but as long as they are shiny and have big wheels I’m on board with it.” He said with a laugh, trucks were well he was a guy so trucks were like the bigger various of the toys he had played with as a kid.
“Okay so here we go then, ‘I couldnt ever imagine you being stubborn at all’.” He replied smiling, “How was that? Stubborn is good though it suits you and it’s kinda cute too.” Digging himself out of a hole well that was a new one to him though he hoped she knew he was only teasing her. “For family you do everything you possibly can do. I’m sure you were never a burden to him and he sounds like a great guy. You’re lucky to have him.” He said knowing that he didnt have a brother or a sister to do that for him. Foster care and then things got worse, then the street and then he became part of the Flynn family which changed his life for the better.
Josh openly winced when Emily spoke about the IV and catheter, she had a very very good point there. “Yeah I guess you’re right, always be nice to your nurse and yeah I’m a little more scared of you now than him.” He added grinning, “But I promise I can look after myself o you don’t have to beat him up though it would be funny to see.” Her brother sounded like a great guy though thinking that Emily could beat him up, well it was nice to know that she was able to. “Yeah I couldnt blame you if you did have to hunt me down for leaving you alone but I couldnt do that to you.” He explained, “Thanks and I appreciate you for fixing me up. It meant a lot that you held my hand through it and your co workers really need to work on their ‘helping in a crisis’.” He said though he was surprised that none of them had tried to help her.
Emily was, well she was so many things. Funny, smart, looked after people, helped him when she could have done anything other than, she was beautiful and caring. There was so much about her that he liked as he smiled when the conversation turned to her clothes. “I do say so” He said grinning, “Good, I’m glad you like it and yeah I think I’ve had enough of an ER for a while if that’s okay.” It had been fun of sorts but then the whole Sam thing he thought he was better to get out of there before anyone else set Sam free to cause chaos again.
Josh nodded when she said she was great, he was glad she was alright and would let him know if she wasnt. Josh felt the piece of paper with the number on to call if his stitches hurt in his pocket as he made sure it was there just in case. Josh felt her grab his hand as he squeezed it lightly as he lead the way out of the hospital and toward the place for dinner. “So again sorry for interrupting your lunch but just say if you see a place you’d like to try.” He offered genuinely sorry for stopping her lunch for all the chaos that came after that.

She laughed when he tried to dig himself out of the whole of calling her stubborn, and blushed when he said it was good though and it was cute, “Awww you don’t have to say that, but that was much better than your first attempt.” Josh continued to amaze her and she couldn’t have agreed with him more when he said that you did everything you could do for family. “He is a great guy, and I am lucky to have him… except when he makes it a habit of chasing dates away. He’s the reason I never brought anyone home during high school… or ever really.” Emily saw Josh wince when she mentioned a catheter, “You’ve nothing to worry about, you were very nice to your nurse and… well I wouldn’t want to hurt you anyway.” She smiled at him shyly when he promised to take care of himself. “Steven’s tougher than he looks, but Isla and I used to gang up on him all the time… poor guy. I think we’re the reason he turned out as tough as he did, he had to be or he didn’t stand a chance.” When he said that he couldn’t have left her alone she smiled up at him again, “I know… I don’t know how but I knew that you weren’t going anywhere. Fixing you up today was just a benefit of the job, now holding your had was an added bonus. My co-workers were doing as directed, they’ve been told not to interfere and keep the peace until CPD arrives, which I don’t remember if they ever did show up.” Emily laughed when he said he thought he’d had enough of the ER for awhile, “Perfectly fine with me, though I can’t say that I’m sorry you showed up today, even if you did bring my buddy Sam with you.” She leaned up and pressed a kiss to Josh’s cheek, “Thank you… for everything.” There was nobody better than Josh as far as Emily was concerned right then; he was smart, brave, handsome, and had stood by her side through one of the worst things that had happened to her lately. “Why do I get the feeling that you don’t believe me when I say I’m ok? I wasn’t ok when it was going on, but it’s over now… nobody got hurt, and I got to meet and to go to lunch with a great guy. Who could ask for a better day? I mean, minus Sam it would be downright perfect.” She felt him squeeze her hand and squeezed back as she followed him out the door. “Please don’t apologize about my lunch, getting to go to lunch with you is way better than anything I could have had in the ER anyway. I’m seriously not picky about my food so if you find somewhere you want to eat I’m good with it, I can find something to eat. There are lots of places here close to the hospital.” Josh Cameron

Josh grinned, he had to admit it was better than his first attempt though it was true. Stubborn was good in many things but maybe outright saying that to her might have been a bit of a mistake. “Thanks, I try.” He said nodding when the conversation turned to family. When he was a kid he hadn’t even imagined having a stable home let alone a family and now he had a family of one adopted dad who was the biggest pain in his backside but he wouldnt change it for anything. “From what I understand, brother’s are supposed to do that. Besides he’s trying to look after you just maybe... in his own way?” He offered grinning wondering what this guy was like to be able to scare dates away too.
“Oh I’ll be nice to all nurses now, not that i’ve ever not been but yeah... if you really threaten a guy with that then I’m sure he’d do whatever you say.” He said trying to smile but the thought of even, nope no way that was going on ever. He would need to be dead or at the very least unconscious. “Ouch so you and your sister taught him how to be tough huh, I’ll remember that one. So it’s you and your sister I need to worry about and not your brother.”
Josh knew that leaving her on her own with Sam wouldnt go well, or it might have done but then it would have been entirely irresponsible for him to do that in the first place. It wasnt as if he could just walk away and leave her there to deal with it though he didnt do much when he stayed. “I’m glad fixing me could be a benefit and holding my hand a bonus. Yeah your co-workers need to work on their keeping the peace, there is peace and a ghost town. Big difference but I’m sure they were there somewhere.” He said trying to think if he had seen a cop around at all though really he hadn’t been focused on anyone other than Emily.
The ER was a nice enough place, great people, interesting day but then given everything he didnt want to be seeing one for a while and getting to walk out of one. That was a very good day. “Yeah if I show up again I wont bring him along too.” He said feeling her kiss his cheek as he smiled at her. “It’s my pleasure and my job so happy to help you out even if you didnt need it.” He said having never thought he would ever find someone like Emily at all. She was great, funny, kind, patient, beautiful and she hadn’t freaked out when being held hostage. It wasnt usually one of his criteria for people but then it showed a strength they had.
“I believe you I just want to make sure, these things dont always happen at once so dont worry about a think okay.” He said hoping that she was alright but then he wasnt sure if he needed to be worried about that. “It is a good day, beautiful nurse to hold my hand and to take to lunch, makes bringing Sam in as my wing man worth it.” He joked as he nodded to her, without Sam it would have been great but then would she have even been the one to fix him up that day.
“Well I am sorry but happy to save you from a bad lunch. Okay so not picky then, how about Italian? There’s a place just down the street or there’s a cafe style place. If you want to pick feel free, I did after all disturb your lunch and I’m not too fussy about food.” He said smiling happy to be there with her.

Emily quirked an eyebrow at him when he said that he’d be nice to all nurses now, “Don’t be too nice, or they might all expect you to take them to lunch.” She laughed, “Honestly I’d never threaten anyone like that, but I’ll remember that if I ever want to get you to do what I tell you to.” She smiled as she nodded, “Poor Steven, Isla and I were relentless about picking on him…. So I might say you need to worry about all of us not any one in particular, and we’re worse when we’re together.” Great Emily, scare him away before you’ve even had lunch. Josh may not have done much to physically remove her from the hostage situation, but knowing he was there had gone a long ways to help keep Emily calm and grounded while Sam had held that knife to her side. She wasn’t sure exactly how things would have gone down had Josh not been there, and truthfully she was glad she didn’t have to find out. Blushing a bit when Josh repeated her words, she smiled “Well it’s not often that we get to help sew up the good guys… which of course is a good thing, but well… yeah, there was just something different about you from the moment you walked in the door. Truthfully I’m glad CPD never showed… If my brother is working today and all of that had been called out over the radio, I’d be dealing with a panicked Steven and that’s never fun.” She laughed, “If you show up again? Well if you show up, I hope it’s a social call and not because you need us to fix you. Yeah, I think leaving Sam at home might be a really good idea. As nice as he might be when he’s on his medication I don’t think I’m up for spending much time with him again anytime soon.” She laughed a bit when he said she hadn’t needed his help, “You were more help than you give yourself credit for, and I did need you. Just knowing you were here made a huge difference.” She smiled, the fact that he was worried about her was sweet… and truthfully she wasn’t entirely sure that she was as ok as she was trying to be. “I’m not worried.” Well not worried right now anyway so she wasn’t entirely fibbing. She laughed when he called Sam his wing man, “I think if I were you… I’d work on my choice of a wing man in the future, worked out for you today though… I’ll give you that much.” Emily highly doubted that Josh would even need a wing man if he set his sights on picking a woman up, in her opinion he would be successful more often than not. Why wouldn’t he be? He was nice, polite, respectful, had a sense of humor, and was pretty easy to look at. “Mmmm Italian sounds divine, and the place down the street is amazing. You up for walking or you want me to give you a ride?” She wasn’t even sure if Josh had a vehicle at the hospital so she figured she could at least offer him a ride home. “If you don’t have a way home, I can save you the trouble of calling anyone and give you a ride… I’m sorry I hadn’t even thought of that until just now. You might be a bit disappointed though, no shiny new truck… just my little car.” Josh Cameron

Josh chuckled when she spoke about not being too nice, “Nope don’t you worry, you’re the first and only nurse I am taking to lunch. Unless the exact same thing happens but that would just be strange.” He said not really sure he wanted to see anyone else taken hostage by Sam for a long time. “Yeah sure fire way to get me to do anything, just threaten me with that. Worrying about all of you, I’m not sure what to say to that other than you seem too nice to pick on anyone. Cant imagine you doing anything like that.” He said grinning, sure he could but then again he hadn’t met her sister or brother.
It had been like watching everything from the outside and being powerless to do much about it. He was just happy that Emily was there in one piece and that Sam was under control too. Josh was sure that Emily would have been calm, he didnt doubt for a second that she wouldnt have had the same outcome had she been on her own. She seemed capable of dealing with things which was a nice change from the screaming and panic that usually arose. “A very good thing, us good guys need to stay away from being sewn up. Not that it hadn’t worked out for me today but you know, generally.” He said grinning.
“Something different in a good way I hope, unless you don’t get anyone people coming in with paper cuts?” He asked as he nodded, he knew how family could get about things. His own dad of sorts was a classic case of panic but appear as if he had no care in the world about it. The man was panic one minute then a case of ‘yeah just watching TV’ the next. “Me too, I’d rather it be a social call than needed to be fixed too, if you’d like that?” He asked her grinning, “Promise to leave Sam at home and yeah he seems like a nice guy once you get over the initial he tried to attack me phase.”
Josh knew that Sam didnt know what he had done but then it still hurt and didnt make an ER trip easy. “Well thanks but I still think you had it handled, I just brought the ice cream to the party.” He said though he wouldnt have even known about ice cream had it not been for Emily explaining so really she had saved herself. “Glad to hear it.” He said when she spoke about not being worried. It was the best way to be if she could do it he just wanted to make sure that it didnt hit her later or that least he had made the effort to see she was alright.
“You mean you don’t approve of Sam, so far like you say he’s worked out for me. Best wing man ever.” He said grinning as he nudged her lightly. Josh didnt usually have a wing man for much other than work, people got close to him had a habit of leaving and Josh didnt take well to the adjustment of that. It was one of his flaws, he didnt stalk or cling to people he let them go if they wanted it but then he would make his usual drastic choices in life and likely either add a language to his life or change his career.
“Fantastic then, Italian it is.” He said grinning as she shook his head, “I’m good with walking, Sam interrupted my routine so figured I might as well get some exercise in.” He said as he glanced at Emily for a moment. “Unless you want to get a cab or something?” He asked not sure if she was wanting to walk or not. “Hey, don’t be sorry it’s fine and how about we decide after lunch. By then you might hate me or have seen enough of me to want to run me over.” He replied grinning, “Nothing wrong with a car, can’t have trucks all the time besides a car is just a baby truck waiting to be found right?” He said smiling.

Emily laughed when Josh assured her that she was the first and only nurse he was taking to lunch, “I’ll hold you to that, and I’m getting you out of here so that the exact same thing doesn’t happen again. Besides… none of my coworkers are quite as nice as me.” She laughed nervously before continuing, “Well I take that back… plenty of them are pretty nice, call me silly… but I don’t want them to be nice to you.” She blushed a bit before smiling up at him, “I’d never pick on you… but my brother is a different story… even my baby sister deserves it every once in awhile.” She smiled as she thought back over the morning, who would have thought that today would turn out the way it had. She had gotten up and gotten dressed this morning planning on a normal day at work, and it had turned out to be anything but normal. She’d managed to meet Josh who legitimately seemed like a nice guy, lived through getting taken hostage, and was now going to lunch with Josh. “So I can’t say as I’ve ever been a hostage before, but I’m still glad you were on my side. Knowing you were here made a big difference, it gave me the confidence to stay as calm as I did. I confess though… I’ve never been one to panic about much of anything. I try to stay calm and level headed.” She smiled when he mentioned that the good guys needed to stay away from being sewn up. “Yeah, but sewing up the good guys is a pleasant change from dealing with the bad guys all the time. I don’t ever hold their hands, and I have to say… holding your hand may have been the highlight of my day so far. Anytime you or one of your good guy friends needs a few stitches you bring them in and we’ll sew them right up… just leave Sam and his friends at home.” Emily quirked a brow when he mentioned a social call, “Of course I’d enjoy a social call… not very often that a good looking guy wants to come see me or spend time with me especially at work… and since it’s you asking…I’ll take it. However… if you try to come through those doors with Sam again… I may have to ask you to leave.” She laughed as she nudged him gently in the uninjured side. She laughed, “No… Sam is definitely not invited ever again. You don’t need a wing man, you do pretty well all on your own. I’d have gone out to lunch with you even if Sam hadn’t gotten loose, all you had to do was ask. No need to hold me hostage, I promise I was interested enough to stick around without being held at knifepoint.” Emily smiled, she couldn’t remember the last time she’d had this much fun with someone or laughed quite this much. Emily smiled as he grinned and shook his head, “Walking sounds good to me, but only if you hold me hand.” She reached out and grabbed his hand intertwining their fingers, “I mean… I held yours, so the way I look at it… you owe me one hand holding and I’d like to cash it in now.” She gently tugged his arm and led him towards the exit stopping and turning towards him when he said she might end up hating him or wanting to run him over, “Oh no… nuh uh… I worked too hard getting you fixed up to break you again, besides I can’t think of any reason to hate you… in fact, I kind of like you… a lot.” She blushed turning back towards the exit and started walking again tugging on his hand once more. Josh raised his brow as he grinned, “None of them, are you sure about that?” He asked her grinning as he looked around at them for a moment. “Well none of them are half as interesting as you are so you don’t have to worry besides none of them offered to hold my hand and they all ran off when Sam appeared so you’re the only one who I want to take for lunch.” Josh smiled as he saw her blush a bit, she was beautiful he thought not that he had thought any different but every time he set eyes on her she seemed to be more so.
“Aww no I doubt that, they seem like great people from what you’ve told me so far.” He said wondering what it was like to have a family like that. He hadn’t even imagined a day that had happened, a run, a stop in at a cafe for coffee was what he had planned and all that had been thrown out the window when he stopped and saw Sam. At least though some good had come of it in the form of Emily who seemed like a great person, sure she had been taken hostage but so far seemed none the worse for it. “I’m always on your side and there no matter what. I mean sure the Ice cream sold me on it but you had it all under control. It’s good you didnt panic, that’s the worst thing to do but you were calm and easy to talk to through it so you should be very proud of yourself.” Josh knew how difficult it could be to keep calm and just keep your head when something like that happened but Emily had taken it in her stride. He would have even gone as far as adopting her for his team with some training he was sure she would be great though he didnt really want to put her through another hostage situation at all.
“I’ll remember to do that, no Sam allowed and hopefully we don’t have to come in to get sewn up too often but I’ll make sure everyone knows who the good nurse is in the ER. Glad to be a highlight in your day because you holding my hand was one for me and I hope you dont get too many bad guys in the ER.” Not that Josh was against them getting treatment sometimes he wanted to be sure that everyone else around was safe and not at risk when they brought them in.
Josh grinned at her as she spoke about the social call, “Well i’d spend time with a beautiful nurse any time if you wanted Sam not included in that but then I could always bring him if you missed him?” He said teasing her lightly. Honestly he wasnt about to get too cosy with the guy after what had happened as he laughed when she nudged him on his uninjured side. She was funny and he enjoyed the sound of her laugh.
“Well then you might have wanted to say that before I had to put my master plan into action.” He said with a sigh as he laughed, “I mean do you know how much I have to pay a guy to do that for me these days but if asking would have worked I’ll remember that.” Josh wasnt even sure if he would have had the courage to ask Emily anything though he was glad of Sam in a sense as he was getting to take the most beautiful woman to lunch rather than finishing his run and going back to his place to finish off his daily tasks.
“Of course.” He said smiling as he felt her grab his hand as he squeezed her hand lightly for a moment. “I do owe you if you look at it that way and any time you can cash that one in.” He said following her as she gently tugged his arm and led him toward the exit. “Well you did work hard with that so thank you and I like you too... a lot.” He said glad that she didnt hate him as he laughed when she tugged on his hand once more as he followed her. “So are you that hungry huh.” He teased lightly grinning.
