Stephanie got off the plane. The brunette HATED flying. How Ben had coaxed her into the mountains was beyond her. Her idea of a quiet wedding had been in the mountains, but she didn't think he was actually going to take her up on it. They had completely axed the idea of having a big wedding when Stephanie did her whole running thing. Fear of commitment, that was a fun one. Well Ben had gotten her on the plane, and her feet in another state.
She settled down a lot more once they were out of the Denver airport. She'd taken Benedryl before she flew so she would sleep on the flight over. Rubbing her eyes she looked over at her fiance as they waited on the shuttle to take them to the rental car. "Happy now?" she teased. "You dragged me out of the flat lands." Not that it was hard. Stephanie loved the mountains.
Putting her hands to the side of his face to kiss him she pulled back with a smile. One, she didn't care who saw them and two, she wanted him to know she was in a good mood. Well maybe there was no real order to it. Though she was in a reasonably good mood for the day. Time for just the two of them without someone at the house was hard to come by, so she tended to enjoy what time they did get away from the teenagers.

It had taken some talking but eventually Ben had managed to somehow convince Stephanie that flying would be alright. She had wanted the quiet wedding and he had to admit he was fonder of the quiet wedding than the bigger one. Another state and he was with the woman he loved, marriage was simply the confirmation though Ben was still unsure if Stephanie would make a run for it. He knew that he had thought about things a lot, paranoid in his own mind if he was doing the right thing or forcing her into something that she hardly wanted. Though once they were out of Denver airport it felt a lot better as he smiled her Stephanie as they waited for the shuttle. “Very happy, it’s an adventure and see flying isn’t too bad. We made it in one piece.” He said optimistically, Ben was that sort of guy even the bad things were manageable and flying. It was all just a big adventure to him, he loved the outdoors and Denver was as interesting as Chicago but it had a lot more open space and anything but city air. With her hands at the side of his face and she kissed him Ben could hardly hide the smile he had. It was nice to just be them and to see her in a good mood. Not that she was usually in a bad mood but there had been a lot happen recently, it was nice to be able to be themselves. Ben placed his arm around her lightly, “So Mrs Good Mood, was it worth the flight?” He teased as he leaned down to kiss her again not minding who was where, after all it was a different state so if he ended up embarrassed in any way he could always just hope back a state. It wasn't that Stephanie didn't want to go through with this, or that Ben was forcing anything. Stephanie was just scared of losing someone again or vis versa. It was something they were working through together and it was a dumb reason to run. Not when she'd fallen for Ben.
There were icicle glares when he said that flying wasn't so bad. Yeah, well it wasn't exactly a phobia that she could explain. She saw the smile on his face and she couldn't help but match it. Then he decided to go all Mrs Good Mood on her. "Ask me that in a few more hours." She teased mumbling her response into their kiss. She was completely relaxed for the first time in a while.
There was no worry that the alarm was going to go off, or that someone was doing something they shouldn't be. Or Arsonists coming after them. No it was just them and time to relax and the mountains. She pulled him with her onto the shuttle, pushing him down into a seat and then stealing his lap instead of a seat. Yes, his lap was a much better alternative.

Ben was taking another leap of faith, he had lost his first wife and second time around he was too scared to let Stephanie go that they argued over things, a lot. He knew it was in his head, they both did a dangerous job and he could hardly ask rules for her and for him to just ignore them. It was simply nice to just be themselves without a fire house or worries about who was alright and safe and where. He could only grin and then laugh at her icicle glares, flying was fun and it was an adventure though seeing her smile it was good. “Only a few hours?” He asked her still smiling as he kissed her, there was no better thing to do in the world. No fire house rules to stop them not that the rules had ever really stopped them but it could hardly be helped. First day nerves but now the rules were worth breaking for her. Being pulled onto the shuttled and sat in a seat with Stephanie on his lap he wrapped his arms around her. A seat was there but he was hardly complaining that she was in his lap. “Well this is different.” He said grinning before he leaned closer to kiss on her shoulder and neck. It was like he was a teenager again but then he had never really outgrown that phase. Stephanie Taylor

Stephane laughed as he questioned her. "Mhmm... I figure that's how long until you drop this whole conversation about flying" she was poking fun at him. Ben was the most inquisitive person she knew and she had never met someone who questioned things as much as he did. It was amusing most of the time; but sometimes it was annoying. When it got to that point she felt like a parent with some version of 'because I said so' or repeated her previous answer.
She was happily people watching out the window when she heard his voice. She wanted to make some captain obvious statement but decided not to do. "Yeah well it's your fault you are addicting" she teased instead. Though the minute she felt his lips on his shoulder and neck she realized she was going to be in trouble. Turning around she licked his cheek.
Though she slept off the rest of the benedryl until they got where they were going. The worst thing about drugging yourself to fly, was that you slept once you got there. Once they were at their mountain lodging she woke up. She had already ordered her wedding dress for the big wedding they had started planning but she hadn't convinced herself to want to bring it, so she hadn't. Stephanie just wasn't a big fluffy dress type. She'd convinced herself that it would get worn when they had the family together later to celebrate but not before. Because nope not happening.
What was wrong with getting married in jeans and a white sweater? She most certainly did not care. Then again they had decided to get married outside at the top of the mountain. Okay so she grabbed a jacket too. The colorado air was alot colder than the Chicago winters they had once you got up high. There was no way she wanted out of this but even with alll this her nerves were going she just wasn't showing it. She rubbed her eyes with her hands today. "You would be wide awake" she grumbled with a smile.

“Who says I’m ever going to drop the conversation, might even get you your own flying machine?” He offered though it was more likely to be a toy plane to remember the trip buy. He asked a lot of questions and annoyed a few people in doing so but then he was hardly one to sit on a question and not ask it. Then again he knew that any trip with Grace and the ‘are we there yet’ had driven him mad at mile ten into the trip. Some traits parents were never supposed to pass on to their kids. Ben chuckled when she spoke, “Thank you, I can take that being my fault any day.” He said smirking though when she licked his cheek he made a face. He watched out of the window as she slept the rest of the way, he was hardly used to her sleeping so much but he guessed that was exactly what happened when she had to drug herself to get onto a plane. Stephanie was a puzzle full of things, never once had he thought planes would be an issue for her until they were and then well how did you get about places? By plane, well it was going to a short trip for her since she was sleeping he thought. The mountain lodge, it was fantastic. Ben had left his suit at home since Stephanie had done the same, a smart shirt and jeans that was all he needed because to him it hardly mattered what he was wearing only the person standing next to him when they did. From the big wedding to the outdoors on top of a mountain in Colorado it was a difference but it was one of those things he had wanted to do. The one thing that mattered to him was the who and everything else was secondary to that. Ben set about putting their things away before with Stephanie sleeping he was left with his own mind. There was no doubt in his head what he wanted, he just feared the part that came next. The part where something happened and within the blink of an eye it was all gone. His first wife they had everything planned out, everything with Grace done and sorted down to the nursery he just needed to get a few more things for when she had died and Grace. Grace was suddenly not just an imaginary thing. Now with Stephanie was going to marry her, he knew he wanted to and he loved her but he was afraid that if he took that step then what bad thing would be waiting around the corner to take it all away. Before he could get too far into his own head he heard Stephanie’s grumble and saw her smile. “Yeah, a bad habit of mine.” He teased as he grinned, he was wide awake though it was daylight not after 10pm because if it was they would be swapping places instantly. “Welcome to the year 2020, it’s all futuristic and stuff.” He said as he poked her gently trying to be serious but he could hardly stop the grin on his face as he spoke. Hearing his voice teasing her, Stephanie grabbed the pillow that was under her head at him. Narrowed eyes she was purely teasing. "Yeah that and that stupid grin" she snarked. How could ANYONE be this awake? She blamed the benedyrl that she had taken. When he said something about it being 2020 she just glared. "Please tell me why I agreed to spending the rest of my life with someone has marbles missing?" she joked. Though she got up and wrapped arms around him.
"We better get going or we are going to be late." Lightly tapping him on the nose she opened the door and hip shoved him out like she was trying to chase him out. A nap had not really been in the cards but she'd managed to sneak one anyway. Though it was just a few moments later she had him up against the wall. Lips greeted his, she was uncharacteristically figuratively like glue at the moment.
Was part of her going to regret this? Not letting Jim walk her down the aisle? Or was this the right call since her biological dad couldn't be here with her. Stephanie was battling her head underneath her well placed smile. Usually anger covered her emotions but there was nothing to be angry about right now. Certainly not in the playful mood she was in.
If this kept up she was going to make them both late. It was February in the mountains of Colorado. She bundled herself up; but she loved the snow and everything that came with it. Then she zipped up Ben's jacket and pulled his jacket down at his waist. There was no point in him catching a cold. Her finger came to his lips. "The crazy things we do" she smiled. Nope she wasn't going to trade them.

Ben frowned when the pillow was grabbed and winced, “Oww, that hurt... injured... injured over here.” He announced as he grinned even further. “The grin stays honey, no getting rid of that.” Ben loved being that awake and alert guy no matter what the time though it changed pretty drastically between the two of them. He was mornings she was nights but somehow it worked for them. “Okay, well reason number one, handsome devil, two I’m hilarious, three morning person, four the list can go on forever.” He offered laughing as he enjoyed the feeling of her wrapped arms around him as he did the same to her. He wrinkled his nose as she hip shoved him and chased him out, he had his jacket and clothes and her which was all he needed for what they were going to do. He took a breath stood out in the fresh air before he was up against the wall with her lips on his as he kissed her back wrapping his arms around her tightly. She was stuck like glue which was unlike her though Ben was hardly going to complain about that at all. Ben smiled as he looked at her, “You sure? Not too late to change your mind.” He said wanting her to feel like it was right for her too. He knew that her biological father was gone but her adoptive father he was still around. He never wanted to ruin the mood but he wanted to be sure she wanted to do the same thing he did without finding out the hard way if she thought it was wrong. There were a lot of things they could do back in Chicago, she had her dress to wear, the family was there but this was just the two of them. He kissed her finger lightly as he grinned, “Lots and lots of crazy things but this has to be the best of them.” Ben said grinning at her, crazy was what they did and they managed it well. Work, home and whatever balance that had crazy was their way of working and he would never have changed a moment of it as it was what had them there in the first place. Stephanie Taylor,

When Ben played pretend to be hurt she just gave him a look. "Wuss" she teased as she got up and wrapped her arms around his neck. "I could think of a few ways; but I will refrain." There was a pause. "For now" she replied quietly. Then when he gave her a list of reasons she chuckled. "Well I can't disagree with any of those, except the whole morning person thing." Too bad spiking his coffee only worked in some instances, like when he REALLY needed the sleep. In her defense, it had only been once. Though she wasn't above doing it again. Just not right now.
Somewhere down inside she was scared that Ben was going to change his mind. Though she knew that she too was prone to running from commitment. All she could do is try to overlook that right? Feeling his arms around her she was feeling her nerves settle some. She was listening to him. Change her mind? What was he on about?
"I'm good" she replied honestly. Though the fear he had changed his mind was growing. Moving towards outside she had turned but her lingering finger on his lips. Now he was contradicting himself? The last thing she wanted to do was regret making the wrong decision. Then there was hurting him. Then the questioning herself. Silence and more her usual demeanor as she tried to sort things in her own head. The two had a decent hike and she wanted to enjoy it.
Once outside she grabbed a ball of snow and tossed it at him taking off at a run. The running made her feel better. Might as well hide behind the playfulness and not let him know how much she was questioning this. Let it go Stephanie, just let it go. She couldn't hold onto that or it was going to be a long road and right now she certainly need a fight. There was a smile creeped on her face as she trekked through the snow.

Ben just rolled his eyes at her, “You know it.” He said grinning as he felt her wrap her arms around his neck. “Only a few ways, what if they make me grin more?” He asked her though he raised his brow lightly when she added those two words to him. Back to the morning person thing, he could hardly help that the mornings he was bright and breezy. “Well I could say the same thing about you and night times. Ten is the latest and it any time after that is classed as sleep time.” He said grinning knowing that after ten he was liable to become grumpy and generally less enthusiastic about a lot of things. It was the difference between believing and knowing, he had asked her and he still wanted to marry her it was the part that came after that. The unknown part, the how long did they even have and had he done the right thing in bringing another woman into Grace’s life. There was no doubt in his mind that Stephanie was great and the best person he could ever have wished for but what if it ended or she decided to get rid of him. His mind was running away with itself as he smiled and nodded hearing her honest answer. It was soon followed by the silence that had his head thinking all kinds of things, everything from was she going to run? What happened if she said no when they got to where they were heading? That was likely to be awkward he thought the minute they had to share a ride back. The key was not to panic or let the nerves take over he thought as he felt the ball of snow hit him. “What?” He said watching her run as he gathered up a ball of snow and aimed it at her. Running and throwing, not the easiest skill as he waited to see where it would land as he tried to keep up with her. He enjoyed seeing her playfulness which was welcome giving that they could actually be themselves without kids or work stopping them. Right now he just wanted to think about the good things as he saw the smile creep onto her face as he smiled at her. Benjamin Taylor,

Stephanie couldn't disagree with the fact that him grinning was an amazing feeling. "Then I just might try them." Her tones were a light warning sound. Though she hardly was after him of his words. "Trust me Gopher, I would love nothing more than to sleep through the night." It wasn't that she wanted to be up in the middle of the night; but nightmares behind closed eye lids was a thing. There was enough distraction during the days that unless something triggered her, she was reasonably sane.
For Stephanie to get rid of someone she trusted, that wasn't likely to happen. Losing those close to her was not an option. Anyone who knew her well enough would think that Ben's fears were completely unfounded. She ducked as the snowball came flying in her direction, though it rolled down the back of her jacket and she laughed charging towards him with another snowball in hand.
The playfulness had her distracted. If she could have fun she could forget about the nerves that were racing through her veins. Stephanie was usually sure-footed but tripped in the snow and rolled. Though she got up laughing and took off back in his direction before jumping onto his back. Wrapping legs around his waist and arms around his upper chest she kissed the side of his neck.

Ben laughed and nodded, “Well I’d be happy with that.” He said hearing her light warning tones though he just grinned at her as he nodded. He knew she would sleep if she could and he wanted nothing more than that for her. “I know you would cutie pie but we can work on it. Besides with you I don’t mind being awake all night.” He said though yes he was the need sleep kind but when it came to Stephanie he would gladly stay up to any hour if it helped her at all. Losing people he knew all too well and sure at the back of his mind there was always that worry which usually came out as an argument over work. Risk taking or just a general accident that might never have been avoided. It was however the snowball that distracted him as it rolled down the back of her jacket. He chuckled watching her charge toward him with another snowball in hand as he made himself busy trying to make another one when he saw her fall. She was the most surefooted person he knew as he was about to run over to her to make sure she was alright when she got up laughing. No broken bones, no wedding on hold as he was relieved to see she was alright. He laughed when she jumped onto his back with her legs wrapped around his waist, arms around his chest and her kisses on the side of his neck. He grinned as he placed the snowball he had on her head lightly enough that it would keep together. Tucking his hands under her legs lightly to hold her he grins and looks back at her. “What time to we need to be there again?” He teased as he started to walk a few steps with her on his back. It was nice to just have fun again and forget about everything else. He had no doubt that he wanted to get married to her and there was no doubt in his head that it was the right thing to do he just wanted to make sure not to lose her. It was a strange way of thinking as there was no controlling it but the thought of not being with her was a scary one. Stephanie Taylor,

Stephanie harassed Ben all the way up the mountain. Once they got to the top she laced her fingers with his. "You realize it took us longer to get up here. We only have five minutes." The longest five minutes of her life. Five minutes that in an instant he could change his mind. The creeping feeling that all of this could shatter in 300 seconds or less.
It was all she could do not to panic. Ben was standing right beside her. Her fingers squeezing his hand more. Right now she needed someone to hold her and tell her this would all work out. Stephanie pulled herself closer to Ben. Really she had no idea what to say or how to explain everything. Gaze lost in the distance of the mountain side far on the horizon.
Words didn't come as she felt her mind running away with her. Stephanie didn't want to open her mouth and stammer, give him the wrong idea so she opted for silence. Tossing him a smile, it was clear on her face she was afraid. Though she tried to hide it Stephanie was afraid of the commitment.

Being harassed by her was something he enjoyed though when they got to the top of the mountain and he felt her fingers laced with his it suddenly all became real again. The walk had been just that a walk, the plane, the bus were all things that had an explanation without what they were there for. “Only five minutes, well you’d know what we can do with that.” He said grinning but then knew this next five minutes were going to be longer than any other five minutes in his life. Ben had done this before but this time just like last time it mattered to him more than anything else. He could feel her fingers squeezing his hand as he smiled trying not to let any hint of nerves show at all. His head was thinking then steps ahead of himself, what if she decided it was wrong? What if she never wanted this? What if he screwed things up somehow? Then there was the big one, what if he lost her? There were times when he had no idea if he could go through that again and he wished he never would. He smiled when he saw her smile though there was something else there other than her smile. It was enough to make his heart feel like it was about to stop for a second as she seemed afraid. “Stephanie.” He said noticing how close she had gotten as he wrapped his arms around her hugging her to him. “It’ll be alright, we’re still the same before as we will be afterward.” He said starting to feel a nervous excitement about it all. He kissed her cheek for a moment before he pulled away slightly though he still kept his arms around her lightly. Stephanie Taylor,

When he mentioned the whole five minute stab she lightly elbowed him in the side and smirked. She was trying to take her own mind off of things. They were doing this whole thing all sorts of backwards. Stephanie didn’t care at all. They were here right now. She headbutted him in the shoulder lightly and smiled. Why shouldn’t she? Nothing was forcing this on them but she had already backed out of a huge family wedding.
Hearing him speak her name she turned her eyes towards him. Lips turned upward into a small smile. “Nerves” she was going for the simple explanation. He didnt need her having a full blown anxiety attack while they were waiting. Though him being close was helping with that. If he was right beside her there was no way he was walking away on her. Not that he was that type of persons but jitters did things to a lot of people.
Head resting on his chest she took a few breathes as her hands wrapped around his neck. “I know it will be” she confirmed with him. As long as she didn’t panic then she would be alright. When he pulled back she stepped closer and rested her head on his chest again. She was going to say something when the witnesses and minister showed up.
Stephanie had learned to control her anxiety attacks if she saw them coming. It had been part of her treatment program. Distraction… um… snow? She kicked a little onto Ben’s show. By all means, this was classified as fidgetting.
