All Ben wanted to do was be there to make sure she was okay; he could hear the Lieutenant screaming at him when he appeared again. Leaving the scene, running off, disobeying orders, he knew he was in trouble but none of it mattered to him. He would take whatever punishment fell his way if there was any, all that mattered to him was Stephanie and to make sure that she was safe and alright. Ben went to hold Stephanie as she collapsed, he heard the officer speak about the ambulance as he reached out a hand to take her coat. “Yes you do, and if it’s his procedure, then it’s mine even if I have to take you to the hospital myself.” He said firmly, it was not up for discussion on that point. He wanted to know that she was alright and the best people to know that were medics and doctors even if she disliked them. Feeling her wrap her arms around his neck he made sure to hold her steady. “You drugged her?” He almost yelled in two minds to stay with Stephanie or start punching the guy who had drugged her. Holding her he wanted nothing else but to never let her go, the fire and the building and not knowing had his head doing flips on the right thing but that had all gone out of the window. “Right here sweetie.” He replied to her as she said his name and hugged him. She was sweating and she felt cold to the touch as he placed her jacket around her gently. “It’s alright, you’re safe now.” He said softly as he kissed the top of her head and then her forehead. Holding her in his arms he was relieved that she was there and alive, to be able to kiss her again had his own state of alarm relaxing into something more of concern than blind panic. Hearing Ben say something about her needing to get medical attention, she could hardly argue with him. Not without a fight and she was too tired for one of those. "I'll go to the hospital. No ambulance" she could meet him halfway right and TECHNICALLY he had just offered to take her himself. She hated when he got that tone to his voice but this time she was in no state to fight him over it as she leaned on him.
All Stephanie could do was close her eyes. She was so tired. Her breathing was slow but stable as she rested her head. She reopened her eyes hearing his voice. "Good" she was so delirious and felt sick. She snuggled between him and the turn out coat. All she wanted to do was sleep. She was safe, that meant she could sleep. The drugs werent giving her a choice.
Catherine had been just down the street the few block with Shani at the site of the fire, but since there was no victims inside the fire; they took the call down the street. Catherine could see Stephanie's pale color but she didn't didn't dare try to take Stephanie away from Ben. If Stephanie was the least bit conscious, it was something that the medic knew well, she'd come up swinging.
“Let's get her up here so we can get a line in." She was talking to Ben though she was also trying to give Shani instructions on what is going on. Catherine felt for her pulse. "Pulse rate 48." She stated once they were heading with Stephanie towards the ambulance. "Blood Pressure is 91/62" It was borderline but for Stephanie that was low. They needed to work on getting the drugs out of her system. Though Stephanie was back awake again shortly as she called for Ben again. Her eyes adjusting. She was in an ambulance but she also felt sick so she couldn't really fight with Catherine right now. “She's got a light fever" she was filling Ben in. "Once we get this stuff out of her system, she'll start feeling better. She'll be just fine" she tried to reassure him.

Ben was trying to weigh his options, ambulance was the fastest way to make sure that she was alright and that was all he cared about. Sirens, flashing lights that would cut through traffic and make sure that she was safe and well. “Hospital by any means, I’m not letting anything happen to you.” He said knowing he had walked himself into it, he had bad habit of doing that though maybe he could borrow the cops car, it would keep him out of trouble and that had lights and sirens too. Holding her Ben just wished she was going to be alright, why was it that the minute she was partnered with Capp things went wrong? Ben wanted nothing more than to punch the guy for losing her, it was bad enough she had been taken but from a fire when he thought she might still be inside. Then getting the call to get out, it was like a perfect storm, one that he simply wished he could help her out of. When Catherine and Shani appeared Ben was relieved to see them. When Catherine spoke he loosened his grip on Stephanie a little to make sure they had room to move as he watched Shani set things up and take notes from Catherine. Ben had little idea what a pulse rate and blood pressure was supposed to be, normal for one person was just that. One persons normal. Shani worked to help Catherine set up a line and make notes for the pulse rate and blood pressure. “It’s okay Steph, you’re safe now.” He said softly to her before he listened to Catherine glad that Stephanie was unable to fight Catherine right then. “Are you sure? She has a fever that’s bad right? Does she need to cool down or heat up?” He said a little confused not sure if putting the turn out coat over her had been such a great idea. Go figure he would cook his fiancé who had a fever however he was too out of his own mind to think things through. "You hear that, you're going to be okay." He said to Stephanie not sure if she was asleep or awake entirely. “Are you sure about this? Can you check her over again to make sure?” He asked not wanting them to miss anything, he knew it was hardly likely and he saw the look Shani gave him but then if it was Peter or Jason he was sure they would be asking the same thing. Stephanie smiled towards Ben. She could at least manage that much. Even if she was exhausted. She didn't let go of his hand She'd been too out of it as Shani got the iv line in or it would have been less than pleasant. Catherine looked towards Shani. "You stay back here. I'll drive." Usually Shanie drove, but after the day Ben had.. they hardly needed Shani driving.
Catherine got a hold of the keys. "I won't lie Ben, she's going to get really sick before she gets better. Her body has to kick this stuff mostly on its own. It went into her blood stream. But she'll get through it." Catherine looked to Shani. "You got this?" she inquired in now way was she going to leave Shani back here unless her partner felt she could handle it.
Stephanie still had Ben's hand however light the grasp was. Catherine explained as she got a rag and put it over Stephanie's forehead. "It means her body is getting rid of things. Fever, chills, nausea. She may as well have the flu for the next 24 to 48 hours." She explained. "First hand experience. It sucks." She replied as she looked to him. "She'll be alright Ben, but she's gotta get it out of her system." She stated as she patted Ben on the back lightly before jumping down out of the ambulance.
"I'm sorry Gopher.. I..." she wasn't what? She wasn't being vigilant, she hadn't eyes in the back of her head? What? She wasn't sure what she was supposed to be sorry for; but she felt like she needed to apologize. "It won't happen again" No it wouldn't happen again because.... "I'll stay closer. I promise" she knew how he worried when she was out of his sight, and dare say this probably hadn't helped.

Ben smiled back at her, glad to see that she could still smile after the day she had so far. He was glad that she never let go of his hand as he never wanted to let go of hers. Ben was too distracted to notice the almost pleading glance that Shani gave Catherine. Shani was used to driving and when it came to the gorilla called Taylor and Stephanie, it was a lot safe to be in the front seat than the back. “Fine, I get the fun seat.” She said trying not to sound too disappointed though if she was killed then it was on Cat. He was trying to listen to Catherine though the minute she said Stephanie would get really sick before she got better, which to him sounded a lot worse. “She will get through it, she’s tough. I just don’t want her to get any sicker; she’s gone through enough already.” He wished that there was something that they could do or something that he could do to make it easier on her. “Yeah, I got this.” Shani replied to Cat not sure if she was going to be entirely sane by the time they reached the hospital. Ben could feel her light grasp of his hand as he held her listening to Catherine again. “The flu, but you’re sure about this? Is there anything I can do for her?” He asked not sure what it was he could do but if there was anything he would do it. Ben wanted to believe that she would be alright but he wanted to see it first before he believed it. He trusted Catherine and Shani however when it came to Stephanie the top surgeon in the world could tell him she would be alright and he would still need convinced of it. Hearing Stephanie talk and say sorry Ben knew it was unlike her, she never said she was sorry and better yet she had nothing to be sorry for. He could hardly deny that hearing her stay she would stay closer and it would never happen again was a comfort but then he knew he would be overstepping. He was doing his best to let her do her job without him interfering. “Don’t apologise, you’ve nothing to be sorry for Cutie pie.” He said softly to her as he shook his head. “It won’t happen again I promise but you can’t stay close.” He said trying to do the right thing; he knew she had a job to do the same as he did. She was good at it too and he could never step on that by insisting she was within eyesight of him every minute of every call. He knew he had to let go though times like that he just wanted to hold her close which was what he was doing. “Stephanie, you’re safe now and I’m not going to let anything happen to you. It’s all okay. I’m just glad you’re alright.” He said as he kissed her forehead of a moment as he held her tightly to him. Stephanie Taylor,

Stephanie was going to stay close. She could talk to the interim lieutenant. Everytime she was with Capp something happened, she knew Ben wouldn't let anything happen to her. Fighting with Ben was hardly worth it. Stephanie rolled her head over towards Shani. Stephanie as actually more likely to go off on Catherine than on Shani. Catherine and Steph had their issues.
Catherine was already done while Ben was playing twenty questions. Stephanie decided it was best to just not respond to Benjamin when he said things she disagreed with. She was sorry, if she had been more vigilant and kept her eyes open or fought back. It worried him and she wasn't going to leave his sight if she could help it.
In and out of sleep on the way to the hospital was how things went for the short ride there. Once she was in the hospital and in a room she was still feeling nauseated. She'd thrown up several times since arriving and was waking up again. She had a heavy sweat going and the fever was miserable. They just had to let the drug run its course and keep her fluid intake high enough to speed up the process as best they could.
"I am going to talk to the lieutenant." she mused not realizing she was talking as she was mumbling and half asleep still. "I need to be closeby. Where it is safe" she added grumbling out lightly. She opened her eyes but the room spinning. Stephanie just wanted to curl up at home, being sick in a hospital wasn't at all comforting. At least at home she could curl up on the couch with Ben and a movie. Here it was iv's and hospital beds. Hardly her idea of comfortable.
The last thing she wanted was police asking questions but she knew they were going to come back for a statement. She vaguely saw the outlines of cops at the door. Erin lightly tapped on the door with Jia in tow. It was Erin who spoke to Ben. "How is she feeling?" Erin was asking because it did matter to her, Stephanie was part of the Chicago service family; but at the same time if later would be a better time. Though they needed more to hold the chase the case. They had enough for search warrants but only Stephanie knew what happened in the fire.

Shani had no time for answering Mr. Protective’s questions, no she was doing her job and if he asked a stupid question or second guessed what Catherine and her were doing he would never hear the end of it. He knew there were patients that did that, the one’s who’s families were more annoying but Ben worked with them he knew what they could do and he chose right now to ask questions. She could only roll her eyes and fix Ben with another look that pretty much said ‘try me’. She was good at that as she saw Ben rethink his next question. Ben never wanted to be that guy who went completely crazy over a woman but Stephanie; he was crazing about her and crazy over her. Capp had a way of getting her into trouble not that Ben had done much better but he knew if he could see her he could perhaps keep her safe. He knew that work was hardly the greatest place to play protective fiancé but he could hardly help it. He knew she needed her space too which was why he was going against what his mind was screaming at him to do. It felt like it had taken forever to get her to the hospital though it was only a short ride there. Once they arrived and she had thrown up several times Ben was starting to worry more and more. Run its course, well that was fine when it was someone who you hardly knew. All he could do was sit with her and wait for her to wake up again which she did and he was more than grateful for that. He was surprised to hear her mumbling though he shook his head at her. “No, you need to rest first and get this drug out of you.” He said knowing that talking to the Lieutenant could wiat, again Ben doubted that the man would be happy with him say that but then he still had to figure out how much trouble he was in for leaving earlier that day. “Steph, you’re safe. It’s all okay now.” He said quietly as he reached for her hand, he wanted to be close by her too but then he was hardly going to leave her in the one place he knew she was never fond of. Ben looked at the two cops, Erin he knew she was one of the Voight sisters. He gave her a funny look as he released that she must actually care to ask that question which he doubted many cops would do. “Not great, she has a fever, being ill, sweating. I wish there was more they could do to help her.” He said trying not to sound bitter about it but fluids and what he felt was torture was hardly helping her. “So did you get the guy to talk? Find what happened to his daughter?” Ben asked as he looked between Erin and Jia. Jia looked at Ben and Stephanie, it was nice to see that for some people being together actually worked out in life. At his questions Jia decided to leave the question about the guy talking to Erin as she nodded about the man’s daughter. “I’ve pulled the file but arson is hardly a five minute cake walk. It needs time to look at things, get the evidence but we will.” She said knowing that she was hardly going to leave Stephanie, Ben and the other guy without the answers. If she did then she risked him taking another fire-fighter and trying over again. Stephanie Taylor,

There was a reason Cat had wanted to drive, sometimes it took a bit firmer of a person to put someone in their place. Catherine had never been much of one to put Ben in his place. Clearly Shani had that ability; as they left the hospital Cat gave Shani a hug. "You are a life saver" that was the last thing anyone in the hospital could hear as the girls went back to shift.
Steph heard a voice that was familiar. Drugs? Is that why she felt so crappy. Stephanie hated to take much pain killer unless she absolutely had to do so. The nausea feeling she hated it. Taking his hand, she smiled part way at him. Stephanie knew Ben was always there watching out for her. It took a little getting used to letting him do, but she was starting to accept that was what he was going to do. That didn't mean she didn't argue sometimes; because she still did.
Then Erin entered and Stephanie just continued to fidget with Ben's hand. Hearing Erin's voice she could hardly focus on where the woman was standing because the light was so bright. Voice sounded all mumbled to her, but that was far from the case. "Withdrawal is always the hardest; but it's the best thing for her." she assured. Erin had been through withdrawal and it was awful. It made you want more of the drug you had been given just to make the pain stop.
"Olinksy has him in interrogation now. It's an ongoing investigation." She ascertained. Erin was debating if now would be a good time to talk to Stephanie or not but she had a feeling it was better to wait until she detoxed. Right now she could be hallucinating and her statement wouldn't stand for beans in court.
Stephanie had caught Ben's voice because it was closer. "They will get him Ben. Have a little faith in the system" she mumbled. "What are they charging him with?" Stephanie asked Erin though she had drifted little more than her eyes in that direction. She felt so weak and was breaking another fever, so she hardly lifted her head.
"Aggravated Arson is all we have him on right now" she pointed out. "He hurt you Stephanie, he's going to go away for a long time. You know the state's attorney will make sure he serves every second of those thirty years." She looked towards Ben and nodded. Erin would have to get with Jia later. What were the chances this guy accidentally started the fire that killed his child? The covered his tracks?

Shani hugged Cat back as she shook her head, “You could have done that too, just don’t be afraid to be firm with people especially the fire-fighters. We know our job as good as they do theirs. We could probably do theirs too while we’re at it.” Shani stated grinning, so she would never have said that in ear shot of a fire-fighter unless she wanted to start an argument but still heading back to shift was good as at least they knew their people would be okay. Ben smiled back at her, he would always watch out for her no matter what or how much of a pain in the butt he had to be about it. He was used to looking after people but when it was turned on himself that was a lot harder to deal with. He held her hand as Erin entered, he hardly cared who was there but he was never going to let go until he had to. Not after that day though Ben seemed to think that Erin was talking form experience rather than a comforting word. “Just wish there was something more I could do.” He said wishing that he could take it on for her but he knew that was impossible. “You’re a Voight, can’t you string the guy up by his wahoos?” Ben asked being utterly serious about that. If it was up to him the guy would look a lot worse coming out of interrogation than when he went in. Out of the hundred and one things the guy could have done, the hundred fire-fighters he could have taken he had to take Stephanie and that was the one thing he felt was unforgivable. Stephanie had been through enough without being drugged and kidnapped out of a fire, it was dangerous and stupid and reckless though there were a million other words he could use for it too. Ben tried not to give Stephanie a look, he wanted to trust the system and he wanted to trust that Capp was capable of watching her back but one of those had failed already so why not make it two for two. “I have faith.” He said deciding not to mention exactly what he had faith in though he was understanding more and more why Voight did the things he was rumoured to have done. “Thirty years, you’re sure you can get him on that?” Ben asked wanting to trust them but he’d trust them more the minute the guy was locked up tight. “He deserves the truth about his daughter though.” Ben added knowing that if it was Grace he would never have stopped looking for answers no matter where that took him or what jail cell either. [attr="class","tomhov"] TAGEnd Thread NOTES
Stephanie knew that no one was going to let the guy get away with abducting and drugging a firefighter. They were all protective of reach other. Cops, firefighter, paramedics, none of that mattered. It was one of the city family and she knew the department as much as she hated them at times would be working night and day on this. Hearing Ben talking to Erin she shook her head. "We do this the right way Ben. Before he hurts anyone else." She mused out. "Whatever you need Erin" she stated looking towards him.
Stephanie was tired and wanted nothing more than to go back to sleep. For once they weren't fighting over her being hurt. Then again she wasn't really giving him much to work with, maybe it was for the better. "Then hold onto that" she managed out batting her eyes. Then she heard something about Ben questioning the thirty years. Ben questioned everything. Sometimes... "Yeah and I'll testify" she stated looking at Erin. "I'll give you my statement when I feel better" she mused out.
"I didn't ask" Erin quirked a brow.
"No; but I know the system." She fell asleep soon after. Though sleep was better than the alternative which was the others. Stephanie always managed to sleep when she was feeling ill. That was about the only time she wasn't pacing the halls.
