She sat the last box down and sighed. Brushing her hair away from her eyes, Jazz scanned the area and mentally counted the boxes. Happy that all were accounted for, she took the cold ice tea her father offered. Looking at him she found him to be studying her, "What?"
Brad knew she won't talk about it. He had tried before and failed. Whenever he looked at her, he sensed hurt, she could ooze it like liquid chocolate, "Big move," he sipped his own, "this is what...second time?" he mused and then frowned; then decided to drink his tea.
"Third," she corrected him with a poke, "I moved from home to Ohio, remember." Where everything had been set in motion, to get her where she was today, "I don't really have much in terms of food. Why don't we go out and eat?" It would delay the un-packing of her new life. On the other hand she had nothing other than boxes around.
"Or we could always order in Chinese." He suggested, "This way you could un....."
"DAAAAD," Jazz warned him, "I'm exhausted from this," the blond waved her hands towards her belonging, "Besides it will keep. You are only here cos you are my dad, other than that, I'm not in mood for company. If I need anything, Evan's around." She added when she saw the look. If it depend in her, she would have shooed him out also and hours ago.
New area, new place, new people.......the untested waters scared her, yet she had too much pride to admit.

Loki had spent the week working one of the harder cases down at the Missing Persons Unit and he had solved it the previous evening. The case had ended with a good outcome, well a good outcome of sorts. The little girl was alright physically, but who could say how long it would take her and her family to work through it mentally. But it had been one of the darker cases and, as was the custom after solving a case, Loki had been given the day off to process and recuperate before he had to jump back in and do it all again tomorrow. He had not done a lot with his day so far. He had just rested, the case had left him in a little bit of a dark place himself and rest was what he had needed. Now he found himself alone at the Chinese restaurant he so often ate at alone when he first transfered to Chicago two years ago. He had made friends since moving and he had a girlfriend now, meaning that he did not spend so many nights alone any more. But he still found himself alone in the restaurant fairly regularly, usually at unsociable hours thanks to his job. But today at least he was there at a normal time of day to get a meal. He could have cooked of course, but he had opted to save himself the effort. There were already a couple of people at the counter queuing to get take away so he stood a couple of feet behind them and blinked as he looked up at the menu trying to decide what he wanted, and mentally debated if he should get take out too or eat at his usual table. She had finally convinced her father and dragged him out of the house for dinner. Taking the advantage of the cool Chicago night, the two had wondered aimlessly till their stomachs had started to rumble. Entering the place, Jazz could smell the food in air, " This is going to be good." In the past few months she had packed on some weight, which she knew she would need to loose. Perhaps taking ticketing duty might help. This way she could explore a bit more of her new hometown. Brad chuckled, " I'll take your word for it," he told her, as they sat down, " my treat. I haven't been able to spoil my only child in a while." Jazz moved her mouth to protest, " That's a lie you know that. That apartment...." she fanned her hand out on the general direction where her new home was, " You almost brought Martian and I, a house." Her eyes laced with pain, " And the wedding dress....." she looked away trying to keep her composer, " Dad, you have done more than you needed to." " Even then," he took a seat and pulled the menu, " I only have you to waste that money on." His own company was doing well since they launched years ago. He had made sure his daughter never lacked anything she needed. It seemed that the love was not on her side. Jazz knew better to groan, as she looked around and noticed a face she had see at the PD once when she had visited on her first day. At least she thought he did work for the PD. It was a major shift from being a Agent to becoming a cop. David Loki

Deciding to go with something other than his usual and to have it to go Loki placed his order and handed over the money.
He stood by the counter, out of the way, patiently waiting for his food, but after a moment the lady who had taken his order came back out from the kitchen and told him the chef was having an issue with one of the appliances, meaning that his meal would be a little while in coming and that he might want to take a seat.
Loki was not thrilled to hear that but it was no big deal, the world kept on spinning.
He stood over to one side to wait for his food, however long it would take. His eyes absentmindedly looked about the room and that was when he saw Jazz. Though he did not know her name he recognized her face.
He stood there for a moment before sauntering over to her and the gentleman she was with. He stood near the pair silently until she looked at him, "I owe you an apology." Was the first words that came out of his mouth.
During her visit to PD when she first arrived Jazz had bumped into Loki, literally, causing him to drop the arm full of paperwork he was carrying, that sprawled in a lovely mess on the floor.
He was not in the best of moods at the time anyway, so he had spoken to her in a less than polite way over it. He had even mumbled a choice word or two under his breath.
"You saw me at PD recently and I spoke to you kind of sharply, I don't know if you remember. I wasn't having the best day at work that day but that didn't give me the right to take it out on you. I just wanted to apologize." He did not know if Jazz would remember or care about the minor incident, but he had made the apology and that was good enough for him.

Father and daughter had been debating over what to eat. Choices were many, mood on deciding what they wanted was none. Spicy, sweet, or something in between. Then there was seafood, even then she couldn't decide on anything. Sighing, " I'll just have seafood rice noodles and honey soy chicken pieces." Setting the menu aside, she leaned back. Brad looked at her bemused, " Is that all?" Normally his daughter did enjoy Chinese like there was no tomorrow. He knew she was saying she was okay, but he had a feeling that she wasn't. Getting her to open was going to be a challenge. Before he could say anything further he saw a male a approaching. Jazz looked up when the man stopped, heard his first few words and was going to ask ' for what?' but she never got the change to do so. When Loki spoke again. Shifting she shook her head, " That's fine. I could see it wasn't one the best days. And me walking around in heels, didn't help either. So don't worry about it." Her ex-husband had told her that heels were dangerous, but wasn't how they had first met? " Happens to the best of us. By the way, I'm Jasmine, everyone calls me Jazz. This is my father, Brad." "That's fine. I could see it wasn't one the best days. And me walking around in heels, didn't help either. So don't worry about it." Apologies were never fun to make, but thankfully she had accepted it and it was done with. He smiled very lightly at her heal comment. He never quite understood why women insisted on wearing them in impractical places, but his girlfriend was guilty of the same thing...and so was his partner from time to time. "Happens to the best of us. By the way, I'm Jasmine, everyone calls me Jazz. This is my father, Brad." Jasmin, he'd alway found that such a pretty name, though he didn't say anything. He nodded as she introduced herself, then shook Brad's hand once she introduced him, "Detective Loki." He said in return. Loki turned back to Jazz, "Anyway, you just transfered, right? Our first meeting didn't go so well, so let me welcome you properly second time round" He said shaking her hand. Tag: @jazz.

Brad returned the firm shake, "Pleasure to meet you. Detective," the older man replied back. He left the talks to Jazz as Loki was a cop as well, yet kept an ear open. He picked the teapot that contained green tea, poured it into two, placing one near his daughter. The worry that was inside him didn't lessen any. He would have to get Evan to keep an eye on her and/or make her talk. He was sure that his nephew would get more out her than he was at the moment.
Jazz knew the look her father was and throwing her, but decided to say nothing. She was fine. Letting it not eat her, she smiled at Loki, "Yea from DC actually." Her being a former NCIS would get around eventually. But gave a chuckle at his second part, "Not complaining, but alright. I can go with that."

"Yea from DC actually. "You've come some way then." He commented. He remembered the four hundred and somewhat mile plane ride he had to take when he moved from Pennsylvania and the feeling that came with starting a brand new chapter in a new state, and the journey from DC was around another couple of hundred miles on top of that, a long way for Jasmin to come and a long way to having to arrange to have all of her belongings moved from. Thankful he hadn't had to bother with that himself, his clothes fitted into two suitcases that were able to make the plane ride with him, and when he moved there was not much he felt the need to take with him. Finding it easier and more practical to simply buy what he needed when he got to Chicago and just leave everything behind, except for the few personal belongings that had some kind of sentimental value or useful practicality to them. But those all fitted into two boxes that he was able to just mail to his new address. Though he still wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing really, the material representation of his life easily fitting into two boxes like that, when most people usually needed a truck or two. "Have you just move up here?" He asked, not knowing if Jazz was fresh off the plain so to speak, or if she had taken time to settle in before starting at PD. "Not complaining, but alright. I can go with that." He smiled lightly. "So what department are you in?" He asked casually. Half wondering if they would cross paths at PD and half making polite conversation, because that's what your supposed to do in a situation like this, right? Be sociable. Not that he wanted to be too sociable, Jazz was clearly out to dinner with her father and he did not want to intrude. He had made his apology, now he just wanted to make her acquaintance properly then he would make a tactful retreat and leave them to their evening together. Tag: @jazz

Jazz and Brad chuckled together the former NCIS agent stole a sip of her tea. Only if he knew how far. On the other hand, " More further than that," she told him, " Rhode Island Native." She had studied in Ohio, moved again for work, now this was the hopefully the last stop. She nodded at his question as her father's order arrived, " Only few days back. I'm not due to start working till next week. And you," she looked her old man pointedly, " are going back home." Brad only looked at his daughter but said nothing. Patrolling, she was still baffled by that. But she had to remember that she was not an NCIS Agent anymore. " Patrolling." She was sure it will give her more to see when it came to the city. When she had been working for NCIS, she had very little time between work and studies, later when she had married, for herself. Now she only had time and work; and nothing else. Tag: David Loki

"More further than that," "Rhode Island Native." “Wow that is some way to come.” He said raising his eyebrows and smiling, “And I thought Pennsylvania was a long way to transfer from.”Loki took one step to the side keeping out of the waitress' way as she brought Brad his food. Only few days back. I'm not due to start working till next week. And you," "are going back home." Loki nodded in response to her answer, then his eyes turned to Brad for a second as his daughter addressed him. "Patrolling." Again he nodded in response, “I'm sure you'll settle in quickly.” He glanced between the pair for a second, It felt like a family scene and it was only right that he should leave them to it now that their food had arrived, “Well I'll leave you to your evening.” He said polity. “Maybe I'll see you around PD. And if you need someone to show you around just give me a shout sometime” He said to Jazz casually. “Enjoy your meal.” With that he went to make his way back to the counter to wait foe his order. He didn't want to interrupt any more than he already had anyway. Tag: @jazz.

it's a sign of my obsession ||This time, Evan could not say that she didn’t get out of the house. Since Loki and few others from the PD were meeting up together or something had been the reason. After much internal debate, she had agreed. Of course, the image of Evan taking her out of her own apartment kicking and screaming wasn’t a pleasing image. She looked at the building where the happening was going to happen. With a sigh, she crossed the road and towards the building. Her uncle had come by that very morning, seeming not too pleased that she had not told him that she was in Chicago; either short term or long. While she hadn’t called him, she suspected her father had. Even had been further displeased that she was working for PD rather than for her own family business. It had taken most of her day to just to place him a good mood. She had been mildly surprised that he hadn’t offered her the job, Evan had been talking about. She knew her uncle, he would have or likely to have given her a spot without a hesitation. For now, she was happy with the PD and had no plans to move. She made her way around and ended up near the bar, placing an order and paying for her drink, she made her way to the group she had spotted while she had been waiting for her drink. It was never too early for a drink. [ not counted today ] [ I have time jumped to a week later. ] [ MUSIC ] [ David Loki ] you're my sweetest sin |

The place wasn't crowded too much, but there were enough people inside to fill the air with the familiar sound of indistinguishable chatter over the music that was playing at a reasonable volume. Loki had been inside the bar with the others for a good 20 minutes, they had all well and truly started the first round of drinks and were standing in a group talking and laughing when Jazz came in and ordered herself a drink at the bar. As soon as he noticed her Loki waved to make sure Jazz had seen them, "Hey, over here." He still had the remnant of a smile on his face from the conversation they had all just been having. "Guys, this is Jazz." He said as she stepped over to them. He turned to Jazz and made the introductions. After all the point of Jazz joining the drinking session was for her to meet a few of the guys so they could welcome her to PD, "Jazz this is Weldon Davin SVU, Terry Camden Homicide, Shaw Hovo MCU and of course my partner Madison Ellingham." Each detective nodded or shook her hand as Loki casually motioned to them. "Nice to meet you." Madison said, shaking her hand with a friendly smile "So how was your first day at PD here in the windy city?" Loki asked casually, before he took a sip from his glass of beer. He remembered his days on patrol and knew they could ranged from incredibly boring to certifiably crazy...or at least the people could be certifiably crazy, especially in big cities like Chicago. it's a sign of my obsession ||Jazz took a sip of her drink as Loki made the introductions. She nodded to each person whose name he said. She knew she would have had to control her temper if she had been in SVU. Davin seemed like a calm person, but who knew even he had his limits. She understood Camden’s job more easily than the others on the table. She smiled at Madison as she shook the woman’s hand, “ Likewise,” Jazz replied. She gave a crooked smirk at Loki’s question “ Better than my first day with NCIS,” she replied, “ on the other hand, NCIS kept me on my toes.” Facing the others, “ my full name is Jasmine Cross.” “ So you were a Fed?” Camden asked, mildly surprised, that an agent would turn to patrol job. “ Which NCIS?” “ Pretty much,” the former Agent shrugged, “ Washington DC.” She looked amused when Camden let out a low whistle. Loki smiled lightly when Jazz implied her first day at NCIS maybe hadn't gone so well and a smirk formed on one side of his face she said her old job kept her on her toes, " This job will have you on your toes soon enough." He assured her. He rolled his eyes amusedly at Camden's reaction as he took a drink from his glass, "Let's get a table, huh?" He suggested seeing a free table with enough seats. Sitting down Camden looked at Jazz playfully, "You can sit at the detectives table with us, seeing as it's your first day and all." He teased, ribbing her over being an officer. Loki shook his head lightly, smiling to himself. The jokes were to be expected, from this bunch anyway, and was practically an initiation of sorts. Bing a 'small town' detective he'd had his share of hazing when he had first transfered, and in actuality it went on longer than it should have because his determination had initially been mistaken for arrogance by many around the bullpen. But after a while he had earned their respect and understanding and he was just glad his initiation was over. Tonight it was Jazz's turn. "Oh, hush it you." Madison said playfully waving Camden off dismissively, sticking up for the other girl in the grope. She turned to Jazz, "So why did you leave NCIS?" She asked with a friendly tone, taking interest in their new co-worker, "Chicago is a long way from DC, what made you decide to come all the way down here?"Tag: @jazz. |

it's a sign of my obsession ||She scoffed at Loki’s assuring, “ I doubt it, but I will keep an open mind,” she told him as the group made their way towards a table. When she had been working for NCIS, Jazz had been up at odd hours working on her desk. Some days she had been rolling into bed at 4:30 am only be back at work by nine. She laughed at Camden’s banter, “ Careful Camden,” she warned him in jest, and patted his shoulder, “ If I go back to NCIS, I have more clearance than you. Don’t forget I still have few contact around there.” She sat down and sipped her drink. Waiting to see what reaction Camden would give. She leaned back as Madison told them off, while she was glad for another female stick up for her, Jazz had worked with men who had been worse than Camden. Dealing with the man was likely to be a piece of cake. On the other hand, he could prove to be a pain in her neck. At Madison’s question, her eyes went cold, as the memory of why she has left played in her mind. She could hear Sophie’s fearful voice in her ear. She shook the memory away; it wasn’t the time and place for it. “ It was time to try something else,” she told Madison, “ Too many hours working became too much.” Taking a bite of the bread stick, she chewed, “ I have family here, I haven’t seen much of. And Chicago was a place that seemed interesting. So why not?” Tipping her head, “ You all are Chicago Natives?” She was sure Loki had told her he had moved to Chicago.
