Casey waved her hand dismissively as she had taken another bite of the delightful dessert. Once she had swallowed, she gave Evelyn a smile. “No need to thank me. Just stating a fact.”
She nodded her head in satisfaction knowing that she would be welcomed back whenever she wanted. It was nice having a place where you could be considered one of the regulars; and though Casey was new to Chicago and this place; she had no doubt that she would be a regular here. This place and the local coffee place that is. “Wednesday it is.” Casey gave Evelyn a small smile before turning back to the rest of her dessert.
Once she was done; she waited as Evelyn picked up her plate and walked away to grab her her to-go cup. She grabbed the bill and her to-go cup with a smile toward Evelyn. "Thank you so much for you hospitality. I really do appreciate everything that you've done for me this afternoon." She opened the booklet that had the bill in it and placed the money; slipping an extra twenty dollar tip hoping that that was enough. Heaven knew that waitresses had a hard time at doing their job; though Casey was glad to know that at least Evelyn's restaurant was a booming success. Casey nodded her head in Evelyn's direction. “Thank you again. Have a good one ma'am” Casey mock saluted the woman and walked out of the shop.
Several hours later found Casey walking alone in in the dark. After her shopping was done, and she had dropped it off at home; Casey had stopped by one of her new friends home hang She had stayed a few hours and decided that she would take the long way home; as she had passed a park a few days prior that she had promised herself that she would check out. All in all, she thought she had had a pretty decent day. Nearing the playground; Casey walked over to the swing set and sat down for a moment. She knew that she should be afraid to be alone; and perhaps she was to a certain extent; but then she thought about her training and that no matter how scared she was; she would be able to handle herself. And if she couldn't; well, she would run like hell until she was safe.
Strands of her red hair swirled as the wind picked up; and Casey decided that she should probably get home. While she didn't think she was in any danger; she did not want to tempt fate. Casey walked through the playground and towards the docks as it was the fastest way to where she lived. As she passed an abandoned outhouse, Casey heard voices coming from within. While initially, Casey would ignore the chattering and just walk by; she thought it a bit curious that there would be anyone around this late at night; never mind that she was pretty much doing the same. She knew that there was no law against hanging around after dark; but the voices had seemed urgent. There was no harm in checking in and making sure nothing bad was going on after all. Plus, if she did get to catch a few miscreants; well, maybe it'll put her in the good books with her fellow employers; assuming she passed the program after all. True, she was still a cadet and what she was doing was probably illegal without an actual officier; but if pushed came to shove; well, she could always call backup. Thinking that she would catch some kids up to no good, Casey slowly walked towards the back of the boathouse; being careful not to make a sound. Surprise was the best type of element after all in her books.
Once she was near an open window; Casey peaked in and realized that it wasn't a couple of kids up to no good; but rather a few men loading up a truck. She arched her eyebrow in thought as she tried to make sense of the situation. Casey couldn't see them very well; nor hear them; but from what she understood; they were delivering something to someone. Casey wasn't sure if the Boathouse ever had any deliveries inside of it; and she found it odd that they'd be doing something this late at night; if there was. That was suspicious. Once the men finished loading up the truck; she noticed one of the men's faces as they got into the vehicle though she had no idea who it was. They definitely didn't look like delivery men. She hid so they wouldn't see her and once they were gone; she walked over to see if she could find anything but not before making sure no one else was around to see her. It wouldn't do her any good if she got caught after all.
She came up to a box that was slightly ajar and peeked in; her eyes widening as she did so. This definitely wasn't something that she thought anyone would be hiding in a boathouse.Looking around one last time; she picked up the box and started to slowly make her way toward the police station. After all, she didn't think they'd believe her if she just called them.
